Let's round up some pics (and hopefully details) of all the X rally bikes out there! I guess to qualify as a rally bike it must have at least one of the following, preferably two: - rally fairing - aux lighting - roadbook - added fuel capacity - or a photo of the bike acutally in a rally race of any kind! I know there will be at least a couple of bikes in the 2008 Dakar. Pau Solery and Pedro Matesanz from bmwdakar.com will be on this: Cool bike with the total "dakar" package. I am a bit dissapointed in the fairing design. Looks like they just took the design from the ktm and patched it onto the X. Looks like Baja Design Fuego lights, exhaust slung low to allow aux tanks on both sides. TT skid plate with a tool box tacked on, Acerbis front fender, etc Here is another, same team before the fairing? I know I saw some pics of a couple of x bikes at a rally (in Australia?) with the huge TT tanks. Anyone have that link? Guido Fabar (i.e. overlandr) gfabar.de is headed to dakar on an X. No pics though. Hopefully soon! Max Kool, Jacksplash, Crankshaft. I think all of your bikes would qualify for this thread. Post your pics (or I will if you don't step up to the plate! ) I have been working on a rally fairing for my X. Still need to do the sanding/paint but it is coming along well. Here is a pic prior to the fairing:
I'm looking forward to seeing what you've come up with Smitty Here is my low buck rally bike. Trailtech Desert racing light with an Enduro engineering clamp on mount for Roll chart and GPS. Pretty simple and effective ,but no way in hell I'll be able to read the stage notes while riding. The front fender was changed so the new light would fit. My local MC shop had it hanging on the wall for a few years, so they gave it to me!
ah ha! Here is a pic that I was looking for earlier today. "Japanese rider Yoshio Ikemachi has won the 2007 BTOU Ulaanbaatar to Uvs international cross-country rally on a BMW G 650 Xchallenge."
Bike is not done. Still have not done any sanding on the outer surface. A good friend, Eric, offered to help me design/build a carbon fiber fairing for my X after seeing my rally bracket and lights. He has done quite a bit of c-f work on planes, bikes, boats, etc. Both of our ideas/visions melted together and this is where we went with it. We hope to have it painted in the next couple of weeks and will post more pics of the finished product.
whoever started this thread is a very, very evil person..... here I was perfectly content..... not planning to spend any more money on the stable.....
Any idea what pipes those are? They look a lot smaller (diameter) than stock or other aftermarket pipes I've seen for the X.
I reckon the big front tank (pix Smithy1 posted) from Touratech, combined with the KTM style top fairing would be the way to go...? I was tempted to buy an X-Challenge earlier this year, but the tank was not available then - I'm sure it would be simple enough to modify a Meca'system or African Queen's fairing to fit that tank? I went for the trusty XR650R with the acerbis tank and AQ's fairing instead (and an e-start kit) - awesome machine! JennyMo xxx
As promised, an update on the side tank. How does this soon-to-be tank count as rally equipment? (read more here)
