Had a good ride to the 'Alpine'
-3c on the Sunday down on the flat

Early Saturday when I got there - I camped up behind the old homestead [outta the frost]

    High ground behind the homestead

Quite a mixture of bikes - easy ride off the tar but still in Alpine country
    Cheers

That's cool camping for sure! Still, it looks like good fun for all involved. I'm too old for camping, so its hotels if I travel on the bike. I'm considering a bike trip up the Icefield Parkway to Jasper, in late July or August.
    Cheers

Starting to get that way too, getting up and down into the tent is what I have problems with - Arthritis mainly + a few rebuilt body parts as well !!
Was a great temperature for that time of year and rally - travelling in snow is OK - wind and rain I hate
    [IMG]
photo from '79, my '76 going over King William Saddle in Western Tasmania - had 50kms of snow that trip !
Used to ride in the snow all the time down there - mainly dirt roads too !!
One of the coldest rallies I've done - Apollo Rally @ Honeysuckle Creek - south of Canberra, -12c ?? from memory

Its July 1, Canada Day, and the temperature up to 25 C . Thought I would go for a short ride, but only got to the edge of the city. A big black group of clouds is coming in from the north, so since I had not brought any rain gear, I drove the bike back home and into the garage. Calgary weather changes every hour if not more often:-)

Hey Guys, hey Baza your photos are always amazing I love it. I'm not a big poster but being an XS650 owner I'm a regular lurker on this thread. Compared to you guys I'm an xs newb, only had mine for 8 years. Cheers for the snaps and hello from Toronto! 20190620_130249.jpg

Give you a hint - it's one of those two @ front !!!!
Been doing assessments - diagnosed with Carpal Tunnel in the wrists - no wonder my hands ache after doing the spanners.

Anyway, going to knock out this TXA ['74] - just haven't made up my mind what style yet !!

I'd say it would be an Adventure tourer. 15 L tank should be enough. Good project!

Hunter, you do realize these pictures of frost in Australia in August have increased the sales of anti-depressants in Canada dont you?

Shouldn't use Anti-Depressants - most do more damage than good, I suffer from PTSD, Depression and Anxiety etc.,
I tried different medications but they all had negative effects, have now been using natural herbal based meds for awhile [3yrs], with great results,
believe Canada has progressed somewhat with its Cannabis laws - Australia is still controlled by Big Pharma so no such legalisation here !
And yep, riding my old '74 XS650 is probably the best form of anti-depressant !!
    Cheers

For those on here who knew him - FR700 passed away recently, I exchanged knowledge with him on many an occasion,
following is from someone who had met and knew him better than me

Unfortunately this insidious disease claimed another good one over the weekend.

Brisbane based FR700 ( Luke) succumbed to cancer, he was a bit of a loner, not spending much time over in regional forums, he had a long running thread in hacks and spent some time in the basement.

In his thread, there was a lot of discussion, not all was bike related, but it did showcase a lot of his sidecar builds. An extremely good welder and fabricator, his designs often morphed into something way out in left field. He was known to build something for months and if he didn't like where it was going, it would end up in the bin.

I was lucky enough to spend a few days together a couple of years ago, much Jack Daniels was consumed, but it formed a good friendship.

3 Legs is hopefully going to get some more details when they come to hand.

He was a cranky bastard, but one of the good blokes.

    Good bloke gone too soon

I have been following this thread for a long time. Now I think this is a good time to get my 80 xs650 special licensed for some winter riding. What do you think ?

Well if your thinking a hack build me and Buck are all in. I have done some two wheels in the snow and it was not all that much fun but three can make you a hero. Go for it.

There hasn't been an XS650 posting in months, so I thought I throw mine back into the ring.

Hey dohcammer that's a sweet looking ride there!
I'm guessing its a 1975 or 1976. Very nice paint on the tank.
Did you do the work yourself?

It's a 77, I still have the original tins for it. The paint was farmed out and is water based with clear coat. I did the layout for it and also made all of the badging. done.JPG layout.JPG paint.JPG
