Headed over to Beatty to get gas and down into Titus Canyon. This was definitely a highlight of the trip. It was not challenging but I did find myself having some close calls because I was staring at the scenery. I passed a few jeeps before I got to Leadfield but they never caught up to me and I didn’t see anyone else.

Leadfield is a ghost town in the middle of Titus Canyon. It was short lived, but there is a lot of stuff up here to explore. I know why the park service does it, but it would be nice if the mines weren’t blocked off and you could poke around a bit inside them.....

A few miles later the canyon gets super narrow and you are riding through this beautiful rock wall area. I had seen pictures in ride reports and the like, but it is really otherworldly in person. Titus Canyon is about 30 miles and it’s probably one of the most interesting 30 miles I’ve ever been.

I headed south towards Furnce creek for gas and lunch. I stopped at the restaurant on the Indian Reservation and had a Indian taco. They make it on this fry bread and it was surprisingly good. The restaurant was pretty busy and the lady working there was friendly. Apparently there was a half marathon happening the next day.

I continued south a few miles and turned onto the dirt West Side Rd. I yelled WEST SIDE!!! and made a W with my fingers and started heading south west. I stopped at a Borax refinery that, like seemingly every venture in Death Valley, failed miserably in short order. There were some springs in this area of the valley and a lot of plants and animals scurrying around. West Side Rd is over 40 miles of dirt and there was no one around.

Seeing all these pictures and reading your story makes me want to get back down to DV. I had such a fantastic time during the ~5 days I was down there riding - was my first multi-day adventure ride.

Fantastic job with the images, what are you using to shoot with?

Thoroughly enjoying your report, thank you for taking the time to post up :nod :nod

As I was heading south I passed a friendly park ranger. It was nice to see they are patrolling out in the boonies since there are so few people out there. I noticed a knocked down sign next to a tiny rocky dirt road. I took a look and it said “Queen of Sheba” mine...so I had to check out.

This mine was way up in the hills and the road was really rocky. It appears to be a little more modern, only being abandoned in the ‘60s. There was a well maintained cabin with a bunch of artifacts inside.

There were a bunch of six cylinder head gaskets all over the place up there. I must have counted at least half a dozen. So don’t ride your K1600 up here because this place is obviously not inline 6 cyclinder friendly. I could have spent all day wandering around this place but I had places to be!

I poked my way down the hill back to west side rd and continued south. I picked up paved Badwater Rd and headed south east out of the park. I turned south onto Furnace Creek wash (no where near furnace creek, and not a wash but I found it on google maps and it was dirt and going the same way I was). This is a fairly smooth road and was a pleasant way to avoid the pavement for a while.

I hit 127 and headed up to Shoshone to check out Dublin Gulch. These miners built cave houses into the side of the cliffs here and they are very well preserved. I got some gas in Shoshone and rode out to my cabin in Tecopa Hot Springs.
