Is there anyone in the USA that has a Yamaha TDR 250???
It looks like we are the only ones who own one! How did you get yours? Is it the black and yellow one? I got mine from Canada.
I rented a TDR on the Greek island of Keffalonia in 1996.
When I returned to San Francisco, I had to have one, and miraculously one showed up in the Chronicle a couple months later. I bought it for $2500 bone stock from a mechanic at Monroe Motors who had emigrated to the States from Van BC and was allowed to bring it in and title it in CA. I've owned mine for almost 16 years, blown it up many times and done many mods.
Still my go to bike for around town.
What's your story, JB?
I did not know you had one Jim, that looks like a lot of fun, Hey I have my RD ready to run
Bassids! I'm gonna have to drive home with a splinter in my trousers now.
Like hens teeth, just harder to come by.
Just for a laugh, either of you want to sell your TDR?
Great looking bike! I have to get a pair of the JL pipes! I hope to this winter! I lived in Canada for a few years and my bike came available through the local paper. I knew of them, but never saw one. When I went to see it, I fell in love quickly. $2,800 later, I took it home. The person I bought it from actually rode it in an enduro, some of the cosmetics need some attention. Like yours, it is my general purpose go to bike. Fun to ride and always ready for a wheelie! I especially love when it gets over 6000 rpms and settles into the turbine smooth sweet spot. I have about 23,000 miles on it and have had it for about 10 years. Last fall I got a Super Tenere, while I enjoyed it, I always found myself going back to the TDR. I sold the Super T last week to rebuild/restore the TDR. I own quite a few bikes, but the TDR is my fav. No, it is not for sale!
I've wanted a TDR since I was a teenager. Every morning on the way to work I would end up "racing" one on dual carriage ways. I was on a 750 Kwaka. I would over haul him on the straight & he would fly past on the round abouts while I was dragging my centre stand. Never beat him.
Somebody said to me recently that 2t's have personality & moods compared to always the same 4t's. I have to agree.
I want a TDR 250!!!!! One of the bikes on my must have someday list.
By some estimates, they only officially imported a few hundred TDR's to Canada, so they are quite rare up there as well.
Overall it was quite easy, especially due to its age. Also, if I go to the Secretary of State near closing time, they just want to get me out the door and go home! They did ask for the custom's form but I just looked at them clueless, so they let it go.
In my hometown, everybody had a TDR and most of those guys still have them!
That has got to be the best $2500 spent by anybody, ever.
might be the forth, its getting delivered tomorrow
I don't think it is possible for the USA to have cool toys like that. Quick, some post a pic of a cruiser!
pdxjim, can I use that photie of your bike on another forum? Pppppleeeeease?
Murf! Tell us the story of your bike!
PDXJIM, how do the pipes work for you? I'm looking for more power .
I'll get a write up soon,
