Well wave goodbye, to being known as a model citizen and a responsible motorcyclist.

This is my second one, I got my license on the first one. Wish I never sold it. I just got it tore down today, has a bad piston and the cylinder looks pretty bad. Now the fun of owning a TDR, finding parts.

Here is from the CBP website

"Nonconforming vehicles less than 25 years old entering the United States must be brought into compliance, exported, or destroyed.

Vehicles over 25 years old are exempt from EPA and DOT requirements, although you will still need to obtain and prepare EPA and DOT paperwork to provide to a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer in order to clear your vehicle through CBP."

So you can bring in an 88-90 TDR250

yesterday was a stat holiday up here, so today I'll make some calls. Hopefully they still supply parts for this old bike. I did a piston and ring on my old one, but that was 15 years ago...

Yamaha OEM pistons and rings are ridiculously expensive if you can find them.

I think Mitaka's (made in Japan by ProX/ART) are about $60USD per hole.

I'd go for pattern parts (gaskets, seals, bearings, etc) where available, but spring for an OEM head gasket. Athena ones are crap.

I think the factory shop manual and parts book are online at tdr250.co.uk

That link to the TDR forum doesn't work... I'm looking for a left side cylinder the area around the power valve is beat up pretty bad.

Edit: Google found it for me, thanks!

Im sure you know this, but TZR 2MA cylinders are the same. Might be a bit easier to find up there.

I had the TDR, my room mate had the TZR!

I found some on Ebay, but they look different. 3XV. I don't think those will work, but that's what got me looking .

3XV is the last in line Vtwin version of the TZR made from '91-'96.

I had one for a few years. Great bikes, but those cyls are way different and won't fit.

Hey Guys. I have always wanted a TDR. My buddy is coming back from Germany next month and I am trying to talk him into picking one up. He gets it shipped for free so it's a special opportunity. I only found one so far that looks pretty beat up for 2100 euro. England has lots more used. I will probably just let the dream die for now. Something about wanting what you can't have that just ramps up the desire.....

I have a TDR 250 and hope not to sell it (it's my second). In Germany only about 500 were sold in total, so they are quite rare since now more than 25 years old. 10 years ago you could get one between 1000 and 1500 Euro, but now it's more like 1500 to 2500 Euro.
So if it was a good one, 2100 is ok. In UK there seem to be more on the market, but mostly non original (less strict rules than in Germany)

The keys and importation paperwork arrived a few days and the bike should be here the end of the week. I'm giddy with anticipation! Thanks Rob!
