They are considerably different than your old 350. But if you want to race and have an all arounder it is really hard to beat a 350, I haven't ridden a Beta 390 but all I've heard is that it's the stuff. The new WR250F's are great bikes though. I'd assume the 450 Elle is a great DS but you can have both in those middle weights....... Don't think that I think I have any hope of changing the course of Mr. BMW:D

I'm not married to any bike at this point. The yamaha's speak to me cause I always got along well with Yamaha and something about them seems "right". Maybe its the rossi factor, or I road raced an R6. Who knows. But hey....I got along great with my 350exc....and I didn't care for the one I test rode before I bought mine. :lol3 I hadn't thought too much on the Beta thing. Might be worth considering. Maybe I'm "boutique brand" gunshy. Cause if I"m looking Beta, I'd for sure look at Sherco. :dunno

Not to mention that damned nighthawk wouldn't wheelie. I tried with all I could, but it wasn't having it. Plus my wife hated it. Smart woman. Sold few weeks after I got it for a profit. :lol3

I think both beta and sherco are definitely worth looking at. I understand the Yamaha thing, I love riding Yamahas and I actually really like the CRF250R too. I think you could bridge the gap between an Elle and WR250F or 250FX. It’s a pretty big gap I’d imagine. That sherco 300 with KYB might be the cats meow!

You love a bike with two carb for one cylinder! :loco :eek7

At least the nighthawk is one to one, carb to cylinder.

If racing is the main target, I'd have no issue going with the wr250f\yz250fx. Likely be a fantastic machine for that. And if a 272# 2T, with all of 30hp is good enough for dual sporking oor the random commute, a lighter FI 4T can only be better. :lol3

Going the Beta\Sherco root still feels like when I was considering GG in 2013.....just bit more hassles\less options with parts\etc.

And there's no discounting the buy-in discount on the Nippon vs Euro thing either. Enough leftover for a spare TSE. :lol3

Not getting a bike because you've had one before doesn't make any cents to me. Especially if you liked it the first time around...
Even if you don't get into racing, you'll always enjoy a performance-first bike. I wouldn't think you'd be happy long-term with a bike tu far on the DS side of things. Like it or not, an Orange 350 suits you. That's where I'd put my money if I were you. Spend less on a streety bike and ring-a-ding-dinger to scratch those itches.

Eh, that second XR carb isn’t a big deal. I guess maybe it’s all in what you’re used to.

IIRC, no idle screw circuit in one. Otherwise they are twins. They were simple enough.

Unlike the fucking piece of shit carbs from Hell that Yamaha conjured out of pure evil called YDIS.

99.965% of all my Thumpertalk posts back in the day were about XT350 YDIS carbs - or maybe carb. That monstrosity wasn't really one or two carbs and wasn't really CV or not CV.
