You do that with a sharp knife or a pwr tool? Some shears for the sides, hacksaw for the center. Clean up with a file and sandpaper. Can be done with a sharp cutter though..
So, my wife has her new Miata she has been driving instead of riding the Smax to work, and I swapped out my Versys 300 for a Xmax. The smax just isn't getting ridden anymore so I've just put it up for sale, gotta downsize the fleet and it has to go. Great little scoot, I'm going to miss it!
New Exhaust......Ebay, $138 Needed a little steel wool packing to tone down a bit, but sounds great. Minus 10lbs weight from stock..
Happy to report my Smax is definitely back to normal after that bad gas back in May. Back in January, on a nice cool Florida winter day, she hit an indicated 83mph on the highway and held it. Still crazy to think some bad mountain gas had me thinking the valves were too tight or something was wrong with the CVT. I’m just glad she’s back to her normal peppy self. I also got the letter in the mail a few days ago saying she’s paid off, so yay! I’m in the process of adding a big brother to the fleet so the Smax will be relegated to local travel only and likely will only gain about 1k per year from here on out.
Here's the Smax's big brother: a 2018 Honda CB500F ABS, my first motorcycle! The Smax has spoiled me with storage though. I'm not sure whether I can take the Honda on local trips as there's nowhere to store my helmet or anything else for that matter. Would it hurt them to add a simple small lockable glovebox in front of the gas tank?? She sure is pretty in candy blue though
Congratulations on the new bike! I feel you, scooter are so much more practical than motorcycle. My Harley sportster is for pure joy ride or multiple day long distance trips. If I'm just riding 40min to the beach you bet the scooter is what I'll take. On other note, there are a lot of top, side box option for CB500F. They look a bit goofy, but in Asian, EU countries they are very popular.
I bought an Smax in January, it came with just one key Not having a key code and not wanting to replace the ignition assembly and gas cap I searched harder for a solution. I found it in China, http://www.uobdii.com/wholesale/yamaha-motorcycle-key-shell-left-with-magnetic-beads-10pcs-lot.html The keys come in groove left or groove right, so order the correct style. They include the tiny magnets to open shutter door, you just have to copy the magnet location from your original key, realizing the magnet position is polarity sensitive. The replacement keys had a too large nub to fit in shutter lock slot but 30 seconds with a utility knife or wood chisel took care of that. Delivery took 6 weeks, so if you’re patient and a little bit handy you can have Smax keys cheap.
I just installed this Beamtech LED headlight in my Smax. It works great for me, but I ride in the city 95% of the time. https://www.amazon.com/BEAMTECH-Hea...amtech+h4+led&qid=1551832508&s=gateway&sr=8-3 It is fanless so it at least that won’t die. The dust boot won’t fit due to the cooling fins so I used a giant rubber washer I found at the hardware store to keep the headlight enclosure sealed. Now all my lights are LEDs.
I have come to appreciate my Matte Titan color on my 2015 smax. I had wanted a blue one. This color smax always looks clean. Great scooter!
I'm pretty sure this coming spring that I will be selling most of my Honda Reflex scooters and maybe even my Silverwing 600. They would likely be replaced with 2 (new to me at least) smaller scooters like A Honda Forza and the smax. I think I would prefer the 155cc smax over the Honda PCX 150 for a few reasons that I'm pretty sure have already been discussed... (and at least one reason that probably hasn't) However, there is the welded non-adjustable handle bars that I am not particularly fond of. Are there any DIY solutions or aftermarket fixes to that situation? What seems to be the general consensus on top speed, fuel economy/range and maintenance issues? (if any) Convince me that the smax should be my choice for a 150cc class scooter.
No Thanks, that is your own job. The handlebar hub can be replaced with an aluminum CNC adjustable piece sold on AliExpress, eBay and Webike then you can add any 7/8 handlebar you like. It takes a bit of striping of the front end, but anyone with a little wrenching experience can do it.
And you can't go too much higher, maybe an inch, the cables don't have a lot of slack in them, I get 80 to 95 mpg on a regular basis, I can go 70 mph maybe a bit faster but who needs to, I've had my smax since 2016, and it will probable be in my garage when I die, it just makes me smile every sunny day I ride it.
How far into the red on fuel gauge do you run? Just fueled the new to me ‘15 Smax when needle got to the red and it only took 1.17 gallons to fill it. Gauge seems quite pessimistic...
