I have always preferred a two smoke for off roading and always wanted one since tuning the big 50 because I believe it will make me 15 again when I gotmy first YZ 250. While at the bike show this winter I was talking to wifey about how good two smokes were back in the day and that these four strokes were all bad. So the pimple face kid says "sir, the two strokes are over there" I almost shit my pants a brand new YZ 250 and a 125.

I was told they have been seeling these going back to 2016, maybe before. There is even a YX250X model with a wider ratio gearbox for enduro riding.

Motocross action March 2018 issue has a small write up on the bike.... Paper version! 50+ remember!

My question does anyone here have one...

I would be curious to know what your impressions are about the bike. Is it reliable as a trail bike. Can it be riden for a few hours at a time like the old ones. I rode my 1979 bike for years and never did the top end.... This one is apparently sold with a spare top end....

Aren't they pretty much just 05 YZ's with minor tweaks?

As far as I knew there has always been a YZ125 and 250 (here in Australia at least).

According to the article in Motocross Action, they are basically 06's with some tweaks... From what I am gathering, they may have been available on order here too... I was unaware of this fact. I figure someone must have one or be interested in a bike like that. I also read that Honda wants to bring back the Cr450 two smoke. I was hoping to gain additional info on the bike. I will write up a little summary of the article soon... I almost can't believe no one here has one....

The engines and suspension have been the same since 06. Bodywork has changed. These are very reliable daily trail bikes... exciting too.

The YZ250X has had a number of changes from the normal YZ. Lower compression, different porting, different powervalve mapping, different ignition mapping, different pipe, softer trail-oriented spings and a WR tranny. I got one last year... so far I love it.

It handles like a dream, and 3rd gear roll on wheelies are not a problem...

The YZ250X is certainly the way to go if you want to use it as a trail bike. Already most of the mods done that people usually do to convert a MX bike to trail.

Because the YZ250 has done nothing but kick ass for like the last 20 years. Plenty of guys riding them in the woods. If it had the magic button, I'd drop this GayTM like it's hot.

I know they have been geat bikes for the longest time. When I had my YZ250 F a 1979 air cooled six speed bike I felt like it made me better. Fast forward to 2010-ish I start looking around for a motocross bike to reclaim my glory years. All the bikes are 4 strokes... The dealers are trying to tell me they are just as fast, bla bla bla... So I gave up

One question though if they are so popular since forever, why am I the one starting the thread on this bike?

Sent from under my rock ! :lol3

    5 speed

3,4,5 are WR, I believe the 1st and 2nd gears are YZ standard.

I also forgot to mention the 18" rear rim.

Would you care to mention how much you weight. Last time I rode my YZ I weighed about 160 lbs. Since than I have put on a solid 80-ish pounds of rock hard muscle. :lol3

Bringing my total to about 240-ish... Will I need to upgrade the suspension or just cranking the spring would do....

Something like that. The old IT bikes are before my time (technically not, but I didnt ride dirtbikes till I was almost 30).
The YZ250X is the bike most guys were taking a YZ250 and building them into for harescrambles. Wider ratio trans, 18" rear wheel, slightly softer suspension, etc...
But they are still a total race bike. A lot of people like that. If you were an MX racer back in the day, then you will probably really like it. It works better for aggressive riders.

I couldn't get excited about the YZ250X, I had an 98 WR250Z back in the day and I just couldn't get along with it.

The power was just to vicious for most of the riding I did.

At the time I also had a KTM 200 EXC and a KDX 200 and I found myself riding the EXC and KDX way more.

Why are you starting a thread in early 2018, about a 2018 model, in advrider's "Old's Cool" section?

There should be a YZ250/YZ250X mega-thread in Thumpers, but I suspect Navin and the orange Kool-Aid drinkers would threadshit all over it.

Because it's the ONLY smoker's section. Everything else is 4 stroke...
