Answering your first sentence would most likely drag the thread to CSM territory. I suggest you start reading the international media, and perhaps travel a bit.

As for Harleys vs Hondas, there is a graph above showing the disparity in durability among the major brands. Notice that European brands are not present.

Well, from that point of view, we can thank Traxx and anotherguy for turning the conversation from selecting a model - to the subject of the total demise of Harley.

If we're talking about projecting future trends, here's where you should look at.

A true miracle, real data from you! Well done, sir! It is obviously skewed toward more collectible motorcycles rather than more reliable, but still.

On my local Craigslist, 1970s-80s Hondas outnumber Harleys 10-20 to 1. Same at vintage bike events. Yamaha and Kawasaki are half of that, Suzuki 1/4th, then BMW and Triumph. Ducatis don't stay for sale long enough to show up in the stats.

As far as which bike last longer there use to be several motorcycle junk yards in my area in Southwest Florida that were full of Japanese junk bikes but never any Harleys.
Surprised that the Harleys in that chart didn't have a higher survival rate. You can almost buy any part for any Harley that was ever manufactured.

Anecdotes are not viable data. The domain of "Bikes for sale on Craigslist" would only be viable data on this subject if you could prove correlation between "Bikes for sale on Craigslist" and long-term ride-ability.

One possible conclusion to your observation is that folks are still riding and enjoying their 1970s-1980s Harley, but they are selling off their 1970s-1980s Hondas. I wonder if such long-term ride-ability would negatively effect sales of new motorcycles? :hmmmmm

I wish that were true. The flames of this dumpster fire have largely been fanned by one person, who has moved from theme to theme taking whatever position was necessary to keep people irritated and coming back, even to the point of crowing about the virtues of his own irrelevant motorcycle. It's been an epic troll, for sure, but if you knew where he worked, it wouldn't surprise you. There are people in this world who make their livings ensuring that internet conversations are compulsively uncivil so folks can't look away.

    Possibly Facebook?

I have an account but it hasn't been active in years. Screw that website.

Maybe he's talking about a different Seattle, but to be fair, I didn't see many prospective Harley buyers.

Then again, there was that CHOPpers fair they set up downtown, so maybe they're more into custom bikes.

And not by the sting of epic failures of Harley Davidson co. in the same time period?

You are an extremely vile person.

They are selling and someone is buying, so I would guess not. Could it be that they are owning and not riding their Harleys, which preserves them?

I'm sure there are several folks who preserve their bikes or only ride them occasionally. But I would images the majority are still being ridden on a regular bases. This is just my guess based on bikes seen on the road and forum postings.

Possible. My guess is the opposite, based on bikes I see at vintage events.
