Rt40 Fort Pickett VA. No tanks crossing today.
Well, y'all know how old goats are. Therefore, I'll ask your indulgence for a few sentences and hope the mods won't cast me to the basement. I was in Wyoming recently and, for the fourth time, the amenities of Dubois were enjoyed. If you haven't been there, it's worth a visit. If you go, I'll recommend the Stagecoach Inn (the owner is a great guy) and have dinner and breakfast next door at the Cowboy Cafe. Right across the street, you might enjoy Monte Baker's Horse Creek Gallery. He's a talented artist and, if you need a good knife, he offers some well-priced blades in case you need to do a little wire stripping on your bike.
When I passed through town last year, I posted photos about a rancher, Dan Stark, just east of Dubois who was gathering military vehicles for a museum he was building. Construction crews had poured the floor for a huge structure and, now, the building is up. Go here to the Facebook page:
Naturally, I stopped again 'cause you just don't see a MIG-21 every day:
How many times have you seen a MIG Turmansky R-25-300?
This was the first time I'd every seen a Bren carrier:
How about a nice LCVP?
(I'm guessing that's a Higgins boat but I'd appreciate if those more knowledgeable would chime in. Thanks!)
This half-track has a mount for a couple of Ma Deuces:
How about an old Mack duece-and-a-half:
My wing man checks out a USMC M-60:
Oh, my bike? It over there:
Spent some time on PAX Naval Air Station this morning before church. Being retired surface Navy, these air beasts have always been mystery to me.
And also checked out this WWII memorial on the other side of the river in Solomons Island. Did you know this was an amphibious base back then? Yup, all that's left is the sailor and this old wooden hulled ship nearby.
One from a recent ride.
There were quite a few vehicles in the convouy - and despite them not travelling fast, they were in the fast lane and not moving out of it for anyone.... including that ambulance that came up doing 30 over the speed limit.
I didn't get my bike in these shots - but someone just mentioned you don't see Mig 21s very often. There's a few in Laos.
Crappy photos.... but I was having some negative interactions with the army at the time. Next time I went back, with a drone, they took a shot at it too

You win the thread this year. Wow!
Not a Tank but it was built to carry them.
I pass by another tank once in a while; gotta remember to take a picture.
