I was a mechanic on those M110's (8" cannon) back in the mid 1980's. Sometimes we were working on them during a "fire mission" and you could stand behind the gun and see the projectile for a second or two after being fired. Not always but sometimes. The photo brings back many cold fingers and toes moments when we had to work on them in the field.
