Battery positive wire connector snapped off on me last Sunday afternoon 4pm during a IBA ride. Was making good time to, a little over 1200miles, 16 hours into a 2000mile ride. That put a 6 hour damper on my ride. Luckily a bmw moa fellow helped me out, picked me up and let me used his shop to get her going again. This was an annoying issue to be overcome at the beginning of a 7 day trip—

Well we thought the charging problems were fixed but no. Stator and rectifier bit the dust. Thank you Cycle Parts in Eugene Oregon for their help with my problem, great place. So it was a 12hr and 400 mile Uhaul drive home stopping at every rest stop to make sure everything was nice and tight. It was fine but man I-5 was bumpy. New parts on the way hopefully good for another 70,000 miles. P8170702.JPG P8170701_LI.jpg

The one-in-a-million.. rock strike punctures radiator in a cell dead zone outside Susanville, CA.

First haphazard camp configuration, tracking the shade in what will become a 6 hour process before I get the bike out of there, rationing my 2 quarts of water.

The awesome guys and gals (and shop dogs) at Hansen's BMW in Medford, treating me like family and getting me back on the road the next day with a new rad and fresh knobbies, so I can roll on toward WABDR and connect a day late with my group.

Somewhere in WABDR land, slight detour for a rest and photo op at a beautiful lake.

I will admit the heat was challenging. That whole week riding through the West coast states, it was in the 90s at least. Highest I spotted was 108.5F on a baking scorching patch of freeway in Spokane, with smoke-filled skies, at the end of my ride. Probably the hottest week of the year, and with the whole West engulfed in wildfires.

What worked particularly well for me on this trip:
    - Helinox chair, sandals. I strap those to the topcase for any ride of significance. Can rest and conserve energy very comfortably, cool the feet, and walk out as needed.
    - Camelback and extra water. Evap cooling vest, drenching the helmet liner.
    - Klim Mojave pants and gloves for that good airflow. Too bad the air got above body temp at times, but oh well.
    - And the most important element.. a good attitude with composure that would not be rattled.

My GPX TSE250R "broken down" after I got a bit too much mud packed on the rear light assembly, and was hitting an MX track a little too hard when I felt the fender assembly smack me in the back over a set of woops :lol3

Broken subframe on my 97 R1100GS,
This happened coming back out of Copper Canyon on my way back up to Creel.
Did some creative strapping to keep the rear high enough not to rub the tire.
Rode it back to Tucson this way, going about 40 mph the whole way.

Walked away from a nasty endo several years ago. I rode the thing home 30 miles, needless to say... it didn't go straight.
