Based on a thread started by accadacca here... I ordered a ZipTy Racing idle mixture screw. Got it today. With shipping, they are close to 30 bucks. A few photos, a few measurements. "Tip to thread face"........Stock .6310" - ZT .6165" "Tip length"...................Stock .1095" - ZT .0805" "Base diameter".............Stock .0495" - ZT .0365" "Tip diameter"................Stock .0295" - ZT .0295" The most relevent dimensional difference is the tip length @ .029". Oddly enough, the base diameter of the stock tip only changes about .003" for about .030". Sorry 'bout the focus... camera couldn't make up it's little mind. Anywho... that's it for now. Went in no problems. It'll be a few days before I can test and tune. Creep Almost forgot... if any locals want to borrow this to pull or adjust their screw, you know how to find me.
to be on the safe side, and to dampen the swinging moment (which can ruin the threads in your carb) I'd put an 'O-ring' on the knob side of the threads (just above in picture, just below while inverted/mounted). A ring that is thick enough so that it rubs between the shaft and the carb housing. This will add a second point of contact and help prevent the knob from acting as a pendulum. The extra friction will also help prevent the adjustment from walking around under vibration...
excellent tip cugino. lookin forward to your tuning review creeper. now if only y'all had found this a couple of weeks ago before I bought one of these for the same amount of money: - anyone not switching wanna buy it? I am considering selling it and buying this new fangled part...
It's a little on the cold side right now... I had one of them white boxes with a red X in it once... never could sell it.
Get your sissy "weiÃes Arsch" out there and tune that thang.... :eek1 The Cult is waiting............. ui
FYI...When my Dad installed his last summer, he just followed the instructions in the little paper that came with it. Like 1.5 turns out, then fine tune by revving the motor and making small adjustments. We ride from 4500ft to over 10,000ft and he has not needed to touch it. He bought it to be able to get in there if needed. Ironically he has never need to. When he tuned it we were at about 6000ft?
And that's why I'll start at 2 turns... I'm at near sea level. The range of "useful" adjustment is a bit limited on the ZT screw, compared to the stocker... fewer turns to a completely open passage. We'll see soon enough. Tell your Pa thanks again for being the high altitude "beta tester" on this... I guess I'm gona' be the low altitude guy. :huh
Nice close ups of the screw......My fu*%in camera would not focus for nothing! 8.1 mega piece of *%^$!.
I only got this camera a few months ago to replace a first gen. POS Fuji that would no longer upload. It's a Konica Minolta Dimage X31 and it wasn't really very expensive... couple hundred bucks. That adjuster tip close-up surprised me how crisp and clear it was.
oser That's a hoot! Packin' that thing around....You'd have to mount it on yer bike somewhere. What the hell!!
I just don't have enough free time (or inclination) to learn how to be expert at shit like cameras, cell phones, cordless phones, and all that other crap that is so uselessly "feature" ladden that the basic operation requires a magic decoder ring/whistle.
