You’ve got to hand it to Harley-Davidson sometimes. They’ve been on hard times the last few years. And, they’re looking for ways to reverse that trend. Including advertising. Over the years, there have been many advertisements for motorcycles in the media. But Harley’s most recent advertising video strikes a chord.
“You Meet The Nicest People On A Honda”. Let The Good Times Roll”. “Ready To Race”. “Make Life A Ride” are all advertising slogans. But what is interesting about all of these advertising slogans is that they concentrate on what the motorcycle can do.
But Harley-Davidson’s latest advertising video touches today’s issues and concentrates on one thing. Ignoring the day to day clutter and getting out to ride. In fact, this Harley advertising video doesn’t even mention the brand until the very end.
The video starts out at a relatively slow pace and accelerates as the day continues. Just like your workday. The audio plays a task list of things to could/should do with your personal boat anchor; your phone. While it does provide information, it also can cause us to miss out on living life. And that is what Harley’s video seizes upon.
Participating in life and getting outside. And in their case, going for a ride. Regardless of whose brand this advertisement was for, I think it strikes at the core of many of our daily lives. I’m not sure it made me want to buy a Harley, but it certainly reminded me to get out and live life.
And, if it’s on a bike, even better.
What do you think of this video? Did it make you think about going riding?
