A well-known cruiser publication, Hot Bike has published its last issue. Bonner Corporation, Hot Bike’s parent company announced it is ceasing the publication effective immediately. That means that Issue #6 which is currently on newsstands is the last of the brand. Hot Bike will still live on social media and in two to three annual special interest publications. The Hot Bike Tour will also continue.
Bonnier Group’s Editorial Director Mark Hoyer said:
“We can’t thank Editor-in-Chief Jordan Mastagni and his team enough for making a great magazine. But as media and ad spending continue to change, particularly in the V-twin space, we have shifted our focus and efforts to our larger, more general interest, moto brands.”
So it seems the changing world of print media and advertising spending is sending another motorcycle print publication to its grave. The discontinuance of Hot Bikes is a direct result of those changes. According to Bonnier Group Senior Vice President Andy Leisner:
“For years the Hot Bike magazine has been spared the disruptive changes taking place in the publishing community with ad support from the motorcycle industry. Unfortunately, two significant reductions in ad revenue from an OEM and large aftermarket company hurt the print brand in 2018, and the decision was made to channel this content across other strong Bonnier Motorcycle Group brands.”
In other words, Bonnier will condense its V-Twin coverage into its other magazine products. Cycle World, Motorcyclist, and Motorcycle Cruiser will now host Hot Bike’s V-Twin content.
Although, Bonnier has announced that its Hot Bike Tour will continue. But as of this writing details have yet to be announced. We will keep you apprised as new information becomes available.
