Hi, my name is Charlie and I’m a 32-year old Mechanical/Automotive Engineer from Dearborn, MI (originally from Toronto). I will be taking a 1-year sabbatical leave from work starting in September of 2017 to take on a motorcycle journey across the Americas and Europe. I have dreamed of this trip for many years and finally decide to pull the trigger after completing grad school. Follow me on this epic adventure as I explore the world.

My tentative plan is to leave from my home in Michigan on September 2, 2017, cross the Darien Gap via Stahlratte on November 14, 2017 and reach Ushuaia towards the end of March in 2018. Upon finishing up South America I plan on shipping the bike to Europe out of Buenos Aires and continue my journey before finally returning home in August of 2018 to resume my 'normal' life.

I will be updating my blog (1year2wheels.wordpress.com) regularly and this thread as well in parallel. Now let the packing begin!

Charlie, looking at your picture on the left of your gear tells me you need to out on some weight before embarking on what is going to be a lifetime memory.
All the best with this adventure.

    Got it, thank you.

There's an app you might like for help with blogging while on the road called Simple note it's similar to Google keep but uses a lot less memory and there are web applications as well as cross-platform clients.

I'm looking forward to seeing your posts as well as more of your prep.

    Cheers!
