I’m a boxer fan. I’ve tried many other bikes, but no matter what’s in the garage, it’s the boxers that get ridden. I also enjoy being an early adopter, which led me to get in line for a 2019 GS at my local dealer a few days after the 1250 was announced. I’ll use this thread to keep track of ownership experience as it unfolds, and to gather input from the collective on stuff I'm considering. Here’s my bike, on it's way home from the dealer. My bike was built October 8th, 2018, I picked it up from the dealer on November 21st. Factory options include Premium Package, Spoke Wheels, and High Comfort Seat. Extras currently installed: NAV VI (Nov 27, 2018, 638 mi) OEM Crash Bars (Nov 27, 2018, 638 mi) Bumot pannier racks / Toolbox Bumot 40/36L hard panniers Bumot 25L top case for the GSA OEM rack (I have a rack I bought from an inmate) Bumot Extremada soft panniers OEM Adjustable Pegs Hammerhead shifter w/+20mm tip Touratech 25MM Bar Risers OEM Radiator Guards - these are the inexpensive plastic ones Denali CanSmart / D4 2.0 Aux Lights. I'm with you. I've had many many bikes, with all the engine configs.....and I always smile when I look at the GS in the garage. As a mile muncher, they can't be beat....the low down grunt also makes them a hoot in tight twisties. Interested to hear your impressions of the new 1250.
I'm coming from an '18 GSA. On that bike, I took advantage of the upper crash bar mount to mount my Delorme InReach. I used the plastic tank cover breadth to mount my heated gear controllers using dual lock. Both are shown in the photo below. I need to figure out a place for both. I'm thinking about moving the Garmin version of the InReach, and using their powered mount either on the right side of the bars, or maybe something on the right side of the Nav VI mount. I like to keep a bit of distance between the GPS and the InReach, so the bars seem like the right place. Any other suggestions? For the heated gear, I'm thinking something attached near the center of the bars as well. I could use a techmount plate, or something else tied to the left side of the bar. Suggestions welcome here as well. I'd dual lock them like I did on the GSA, but there's not as much real estate on the GS.
The dual lock on my “wired” remote troller works well mounted on the windshield mechanism on the left. You can see the red knob If you zoom on the picture. Port on tank cover with the left bias works for me so when I forget to unplug, it doesn’t bend, break, or tweak my connection.
I will put Darlas on my GS once I'm up and around. I was going to go with Rigids and Ezcan to save some money but after surveying the details, the current Clearwater install is quite clean and efficient. I don't do a lot of night riding so I don't feel the need for retina-searing setup. I had Darlas on my '16 with yellow lenses and they were very good for conspicuousity. I'd pop off the lens covers at night. Look forward to your impressions on the 1250. My initial plan would be to trade my '18 in for a '21 but we'll see...
I had not thought of the windshield mechanism, I'll check that out. I've always just brought the power up between the seat and the tank, which works OK but requires more slack than I like to be able to stand up. Your port location would likely work better for that as well. Thanks.
I'm in SW Portland, OR. Fortunate to live just 3.9 miles from my dealer, BMW Motorcycles of Western Oregon.
Took advantage of the ADV Motorrad black Friday sale and ordered a full Bumot setup, should be on the way soon. I had Bumot's on my 2013 Tenere, and really liked them. I put a RAM ball on the handlebars to hold the Inreach for now. The dealer puts a battery tender cable on all the bikes they sell, and I'm connecting to that for my heated gear. Heat Troller is currently in my jacket pocket, I'm still thinking about where it will live long term.
Running in service completed by BMW Motorcycles of Western Oregon @ 628mi. Washed it before I took it in. When I got home I parked it in front of the garage and took the opportunity to take the last photo of the bike in stock form.

1100 miles on the bike, it's running like a top. My Bumot setup arrived, and I've got the Bumot Racks/Toobox installed. I needed some HW for the GSA top rack I bought from an inmate, which arrived today as well, so I installed it too.
