Riding along the San Andreas fault to the Carrizo Plain, then cutting across at Bakersfield and around to Ridgecrest and up is a beautiful route and quite enjoyable as a 2 day trip. I did that a few years ago mid-February on the XR650R.

Here's my daily "Please buy my spot" post. I'll even throw in a coffee stained silly-pint I have from some mountain bike race I did and you can be the cool person with a non-black silly-pint. :rofl

$90 for THREE dinners for a ride-in or carpool person. (CPD3 aka MCD3 originally $110).

It looks like the internet ride list is not happening this year, so I'll follow the creative lead of some others and post up a couple of NOOB rides I was planning on leading:

    1. Big Easy Loop - Saturday
This goes up over Hunter mountain and down the back side to teakettle junction, a short sidetrip to the Racetrack and then to Ubehebe Crater, then it's all slab back to PSR. I led this same ride last year, and there is nothing really difficult in there, just a long satisfying day's ride with no gas, should have about a 140 mile range. There's a couple of cabins we'll check out along the way as well as a mine along with the aforementioned racetrack and crater. Much of the stretch between the Racetrack and Ubehebe is often heavily washboarded, so bring extra Polident to glue your teeth back in :D. Last year's ride had mostly big bikes, so this route would be fine as long as it's not your first time venturing off pavement. Meet a Gas Station at 8:30, look for black DRZ with a gas tank the size of the Exxon Valdez. Hopefully it won't run aground again. Map

    2. Ballarat-Skidoo - Thursday afternoon
Never been to Ballarat, so I want to have a look-see. Skidoo is a cool mining site with a bunch of interesting old equipment still there. Depending on the time, Agueberry Point is a little sidetrip along the way with an awesome view. 110mi round trip, all easy dirt or pavement. There seem to be a few other similar rides materializing, so may just consolidate with one of those. Come by Site 28 between 11:00 and 12:00 if interested, should be back from the overnite warm springs ride by then. Map

Best invention ever for camping in a tent. For illustration purposes only. If it is this color in the morning you might want to see a doctor.
