It was great to catch up to some blokes at Granya Saturdee night and try to put faces to ADV names. Didn’t work very well but I shall persist. Anyway, I put an idea to a few of them and got a semi-sanction to go ahead with this thread.

I found a place. It must be a secret place because no has ever mentioned it to me in my long and colourful life. It is the perfect spot for an ADV get together if you like places where you have to bring absolutely everything you will need to camp out for a night or two and are prepared to carry out all your own rubbish. It is a lovely green spot by a river with, unfortunately, no dunnies so you would have to think about that too. There is a public hall a few k’s down the road that may have dunnies but I don’t know for sure. The place is surrounded by forest so getting a few sticks for a fire shouldn’t be an issue. The place is sort of equi-distant from Melbourne and Sydney. I don’t mind if you run a poll to try and guess the spot but I won’t tell you even if you do.

The best bit is that there are lots of different ways to get to it with varying difficulty levels. My proposal is that we discuss the mechanics of making this a destination, setting a date and making it a mystery destination.

We could leave envelopes with the destination in it either 400 ks away or 200 ks away at various places on main roads that lead towards the spot. The inmate would have to pick it up the night before then plan a way in that suits them. Not sure how to do that either yet but could leave them at a caravan park or similar.

That’s the basics. This thread will sink or swim. I hope it swims.

Looks like it is going to swim. Date is Saturday 17th of November. Pick up your envelope any time after 5.00 pm on Friday 16th.

Doonie is in. With Maz in the support vehicle.

Great idea. Give it a go.

Pic a date that suits the destination, let's not make it a poll :norton
I'm very curious as to where we may end up.

Goodonya Russ, I was beginning to think it might sink. Later in the year I reckon when it warms up a bit. We'll give it a few days and see if any heads pop up with ideas.

If the chosen date doesn't clash I could be a goer. Definitely intrigued.

Used to love cryptic car rallies Doonie, and back in MRA Tas days I did a bike rally where we had to collect proof of being at various places where the next clue was, ie: a receipt for a beer at a certain pub, then the publican would give you the next destination clue and you'd have to read a graffito on the second dunny on the left to get the next clue and so on. With that one the final destination was known in case you got horribly lost or just couldn't be arsed following the trail, I like your idea of the common jumping off point known, final destination unknown and choice of route to get there once that unknown is known. (Thanks Donald).

I guess the first thing is to see how many, and who, are/is interested. How do I make a self fulfilling list on this thing or do I just start a spreadsheet here at home and see if any hands go up?

Sounds good esp if equidistant from Melb and Syd. Please not W/E of 20 - 21 April 2019 I have an (admittedly vague) plan for the DR Muster that week end

Thinking October November, give all the pieces time to fall in to place. Need to let this knock around for a while, see what sort of interest it gets.

I'll tip me hat for November. Trip already organised for Oct so leave pass earlier might be problematic.

I'd be interested in joining you Doonie, dependant on being available on the selected dates.

The only thing I can see that is also going on on the 16-19 November time span is a Snowy Mountains travellers meeting. If that is OK say yes I'll go, all little ducks lining up and I'll start a list of names on the first paragraph in this thread.

    Sounds good.

:scratch I think the Trout Rally is the first weekend in November, altho' there's no official date set yet for this year's Trout.

I'm in if it doesn't clash with anything. Sounds a bit different so it could be a goer.
What about Cup W/e Doon. There's no Pooncarie now so it could be a good replacement.
