I rode the AS AT this morning. Very nice bike but I'm still not sure I can part with $21k for it to be honest...$18500 for the standard ABS package and they're running out old stock at $17500.
Better prices are yet to be had I'm sure but fwaaar that's some big coin. Big decisions ahead

My money would be on the $18,500 new one, fit some crash bars, existing suspension resprung and revalved for me, camel windshield base

run with the existing bashplate, and worry about some panniers later

but that's just me, and I'm not sick of my 1200GS yet :D

er, you just opened my eyes to that.

for those with busy lives and a couple of choices in the shed on a rare sunny/dry winters day off, a lithium jobbie makes a lot of sense....

i've got a couple of chargers that i rotate around. lithiums would solve that i guess.

Have a look at the new prices of the 850BMW and GS1200, 690 and 701 with kits fitted. Ouch.

Lithiums just love the cold weather.....Not!
Be interesting to see what dramas that presents in the southern states this winter.
Dont know of any other manufacturer whos gone to Lithium, Honda might be the first!
Wonder if it Honda or Honda Australia that made that decision?

    You sure about that Marc?
"ALL batteries will perform poorly in cold weather, regardless of whether they are lithium or lead-acid. In fact, a lithium battery will still outperform a comparably-sized lead-acid when the temperature drops. ... As a result, the battery will warm up internally and gain enough “juice” to start the car"

I get this feeling an ATAS DCT will appear in my garage later this year. But it'll mean selling the HP2 first. Am I going mad?

    We will see :-)
Just an observation from the last few years worth of dramas that people have with lithiums in cold climates.
Unfortunately you cant make an equivalent lithium capacity battery in the same footprint as a lead acid.

Dont know where that quote came from so cant comment on its value.

Lithium batteries will start better in the cold if you "warm" them up by creating a current draw.... turning on lights, or other electrical things first.

That's what I do in my enduro bikes and so far so good.
