2014 1200gsw... I actually don't have pictures of my gear spread out and it's all packed up.

As far as a gear list though.

    Kelty salida 2 man tent
Green patrol bag from MSS with fleece liner I have slept through some pretty cold nights with this set up and it packs small
    Klymit V insulated sleep pad
    Kelty Noah 12 tarp

    12 can cooler
    Stainless pot
Coffee purqulator (I know packing two pots is excessive. I've tried every kind of way to make coffee and this is my preferred method.)
    Coffee cup
    Bowl
    Utensils
MSR whisper lite stove and fuel bottle

    Heated liner
    Long jons
    Balaclava
    Stocking cap
    Waterproof winter gloves
    Summer gloves
    Darien jacket
    Ad1 pants
    Sidi all road boots
Arai signet Q helmet with pro tour shield

4 pairs of socks of varying weights
    4 pairs of drawers
    2 short sleeve shirt
    1 long sleeve shirt
This is including what im wearing when I leave the house

    Tire repair kit
    Tools for basic maintenance.

That's pretty much it never seems like alot til I list it out

I do plan to add bug net and bug spray
Also I'm torn on bringing my camp chair or not.

I'll post pics this weekend of bike loaded and then later of my gear out and set up at a camp site.

Unless you forgot to list, a headlamp is a great piece of equipment...maybe not in the Arctic around the summer solstice, but in normal nighttime conditions, it’s great handsfree light.

My list will be very similar, plus: a couple of cameras and related chargers, etc.; maybe a small/light laptop; bear spray; bear cannister (doubles as a chair); spare gearshift and hand levers; possibly a spare section of chain, master links and breaker tool.

I’ve done many trips in the last few years on two wheels and always stayed in hotels/motels of the inexpensive variety. Alaska will be different. When Paul and I started talking about a 2018 Alaska trip last summer we recognized that bringing some camping equipment would be an insurance policy in case we couldn’t find a hotel/motel with reasonable rates or any at all on any particular day.

Well, two days ago I broke down and bought new camping equipment. I bought a 2 person tent, a sleeping bag (rated 15°F), a sleeping pad with an R rating of 4.9 and a pillow. Now that I am broke :lol3 I will be forced to camp whether the weather is good or not. Actually, we will camp some nights but not every night. We’ll see how it goes. I haven’t slept in a tent in 20 years and that was in nice summer weather.

Paul - who will be riding a VStrom 650 - and I on the big S10 are planning to depart from Moncton around June 1st . We will be going West across Canada and then North all the way to TUK on the Dempster before coming back down to Dawson City to attend the D2D.

After the D2D we will be doing:
    • TOW
    • Denali Highway
    • McCarthy Rd to Kennicott
    • Valdez
    • Possibly Kenai Peninsula including Homer
On the way back we are planning to do:

    · Haines – Skagway Ferry
    · Cassiar
    · Possibly Telegraph Creek
    · Stewart – Hyder including Salmon Glacier
    · Stop in Terrace BC via Rte 113
    · Possibly ride to Prince Rupert and back from Terrace BC

Not wanting to ride across Canada twice we will cross into the US somewhere in Montana. I would like to do the Road to the Sun but I’m not sure I want to do it in July in the traffic. It would be a possibility in the first part of our trip if it is open in early June.

From Montana it will be just a matter of getting back home going East. We’ll probably do Beartooth – Chief Joseph and some of the roads around Sturgis before hitting the slab for good.

All in all we are looking at a minimum of 6 weeks but more likely 7 weeks. And yes Paul and I are both retired and our wonderful wives have approved the trip.

Looking forward to meeting you and some of the other inmates.

If I see a DR 650 getting passed by a turtle I'll know who it is. :lol3

My plan is to be there on June 18 just because I do not want to rush back to Dawson City and if it rains I get a buffer. I have some reservations at the Nova Inn in Inuvik for the nights of June 17 & 18. Arrive in Inuvik on June 17. Ride up to TUK and back to Inuvik on June 18.

You will be one day ahead of us. We leave Dawson City on the morning of the 18th, ride straight through to Inuvik, stay at the Nova Inn on the night of the 18th, so.......we can all get together for dinner that night. Then we ride to TUK on the 19th, and back to Inuvik that same day. Then leave Inuvik on the morning of the 20th, and ride straight through back to Dawson City, for a 3 night stay.

Hey Heidiho, maybe you can ride all those miles straight through on the Dempster, but I’ll be stopping at the occasional Starbucks along the way, plus I don’t want to overly tax the BMW.

I am planning on heading up this year or next. Learning tons of great things as i plan from all the info sharing you all are doing. I will be riding careful - cause I hate picking up my GS when it is loaded up. I will be going from MI and riding solo. My sense of humor is so good that riders avoid me..ok, I am not that bad. Going to try camping most of the trip but i am sure I will need to hotel for 10 days or so. Keep me in your loop and if anyone is headed from the midwest to Alaska let me know. Maybe we can team up. Would love to ride with the Noobs from Pensacola who have spun up the best story on their trip. Wild group!

    TRIPLE J HOTEL CABINS 6/23 & 6/24 COMING AVAILABLE!

[Update 3/22: One of the cabins was taken by an inmate here and I turned the other one back to the hotel.]

I have two double cabins booked at the Triple J for 6/23 and 6/24, but our plans have changed. We're now 3 riders and we will now be staying in Dawson 6/25 and 6/26, but the Triple J is fully booked for those dates. I will be cancelling these two cabins soon, but I wanted to see if any fellow inmates are looking for rooms on these dates first. If so, PM me and we can coordinate so you can get the cabins right after I cancel.

So far, I have managed to get one room reserved (2 beds + cot) for 6/26 at the Downtown Hotel, and I'm on a wait list for 6/25. The lady says that there's a good chance that there will be a cancellation, so I think we'll be OK. We're camping up to that point, but I'm looking forward to a couple of days in Dawson in comfort.

This will be my third time in Dawson, and I love this town!
