Are forest roads in the Jemez currently gated?

Has anyone been up in the Jemez recently?

I am assuming the gates on roads are locked for winter, even though it is bone dry up there. Is that correct?

Given the extreme nature of the lack of snow this year I am assuming that most of the summer there will be closures due to fire danger, and I am hoping to get in some riding before those start.

On a related note I am thinking of starting a thread to compile a list of fun non Forest Service dirt roads in North NM to give everyone a chance to get some kind of dirt fix all summer even if the forests get closed. Thoughts?

I haven't been up there but I called the ranger office, last Friday, and they said the FS roads are closed and gates locked. I tried to get specific info but they would not give specifics. I looked up the seasonal closure orders on line and they cover a lot of the roads.

That was what I was afraid of. I think they usually unlock them mid April.

Yeah, they said the gates will open on April 15th (tax day!)

I drove 376 on Saturday. The gate was open.

I need to get in on this. Hoping to ride lots of those roads this spring/summer/fall. I have a forest service road email I’ll have to find and post. Has lots of good resources for finding good places to ride.
