    Interesting. I'd be surprised if genuine SKF were crap and as someone mentioned counterfeit gear is a likelyhood I guess buying online & cheap.

    I wonder how much of this stuff really goes on

    Ive been running nachi in anything from farm quads to my berg for many years, I dont add any grease as this only upsets the bearing seals IMO. They last a couple years or when I find play in them.

    I just bought 2x 6005 & 1x 6205 for $22 locally to go in a cush hub, if and when I have a drama thats where they'll be going back to.

    Hub seals are often just general purpose industrial radial shaft seals with a single lip. These are not usually critical as the seal and spacer often only serve as a sacrificial crud guard for the sealed bearings behind them.
    If the seal has to hold grease or oil, for example a FD, then selecting the right part becomes important.

    For hard or impossible to find bike specific seals the SKF catalogue is a good resource.

    You'll have to scroll a long way down in the second link to get into sizes. If you can't find what you're looking for give an SKF, Timken, NTN et al dealer a call. Try for bike make and model, then seal dimensions. SKF CRWx or HMSx seals for example will do the job.

    I bought a All balls linkage kit for my xr650r they rusted out in about 1.5 yrs.
    Also bought chain rollers at the same time and the roller wore quicker and cracked in half, the spare roller I got cracked in the package before I got to use it.

    I wouldn't buy All balls products again.

    Oh they gave me a refund on the first roller shipped from US free, but that cracked too.

    I've tried All Balls on my XR shock linkages as well. Stupid things had more play in them than the rooted ones I took out.

    Had a closer look and it appears mr silly g$%k used a steel ruler in stead of a micrometer when machining

    My own experience has been that ___balls ball bearings fail(some wheel wobble) at 2000klms of true off road use and Japanese bearings have not failed by 20000klms, ___balls are made in China, I have an email from them confirming it.
    From ___Balls: "What is the year make and model of your machine? You have my attention. We typically see longer life or equal out of our bearings than OEM. Our bearings are made in china but we use abec3 precision bearings with c3 clearance. We use a high performance chevron grease. Our factories use German and Japanese bearing manufacturing equipment. Please review the attached installation it explains how it is very easy to side load a deep grove ball bearing. We stand behind our product any use them in our own machines with great results."

    You could use copper and still get high precision machining tolerances using the best machines and then put the worlds best grease in and they would fail in use because it is the wrong material so ignore anything they say regarding manufacturing processes, the Chinese are probably a few years away from high quality alloys but they'll get there eventually.

    Stick with Genuine Japanese or German made bearings for wheel bearings and steering heads such as nachi, koyo, fag etc, not so important for swingarms.

    My bearings get the proper installation treatment with no abnormal race install side loads which can root the best bearings from day one.

    They are easy to get online but I'd try and order them from a reputable Aussie bearing supplier to industry, not much price difference.

    Woop Woop is all over the place so without giving your location away... Have you thought of BearFast in Tamworth a bit of a run for quality bearings. They hold in stock a huge range of bearings, bushes and freight out or post all over SE Asia. They have a poverty pack of well known manufacture up to the top of the line bearings. I've used these guys for 15 or more years for all manner of bearing needs and never ever had a problem. Their staff are all over the fitment issues and will put you on the right track from the get go...no fucking about. If they cannot get some absurd item they will say so. No trouble.

    Getting the item to you is always a priority. If your information to them is correct then its almost always and overnight or within a few days delivery.
    In the end maybe their worth a call. If you have all the bearing numbers then I see no reason these guys couldn't supply.

    I try and stay away from all balls if I can

    I usually take the bearing numbers to my local bearing supplier and get them from him

    Glad I'm not the only one.
    Normally always go to bearing suppliers and buy quality stuff. However today is a public holiday so went to an AMX super store who had an all balls rear wheel kit. Could tell from the outset that these were not a quality item, felt loose even before fitting.
    Oh well got me out of trouble.
    Took a photo of seals and bearings for the numbers and will order another set from a bearing supply. Most of the bearing shops will post out to you now.

    Recent experience tells me that most if not all Premium bearing brands are now made in China.
    My nifty genuine Japanese "quality" tractor had a Jap branded/Chinese made transmission bearing that failed.
    I tried all the famous brands and all were ex China… eventually bought a taiwanese bearing.
    International bearing quality ratings were /are being updated so folks can pick between cheap crap and good quality.

    Swiss watch guts are made in china, shipped to Suisse partly assembled, finished in Suisse and called a Swiss Watch movement.
    German imported Hepco and Becker rack adapter was junky and I would bet a dollar that it was most if not all all Chinese.

    interestingly I have been into 2 bike workshops lately one who many people on here rate their work very highly and the other I know prepares some sponsored race bikes and both of them were using all balls bearings. One of them used All Balls on a replacement on my bike so I guess ill find out.

    I think a lot of the shops will use them because they are quick and convenient, come with seals ready to go. No chasing around for individual bearing and part numbers. Time is money.

    I tell you though, these felt crap straight away. I f you have felt a lot of bearings before installation you would know. No real play or roughness but just didn't feel like a new bearing should.

    :devildogAn eye opener this thread , I fitted an All balls kit to the swinging arm and linkages on my 450 a little while back , last ride the rear suspension did some odd thumping I could not quite work out from the seat , I shall have to check it all out again I suppose . I bought that All Balls kit as it was a complete swap out , old for new , with Stainless steel shafts and bearings and seals in one easy buy , probably should have checked everything with my Micrometer before assembly instead of rushing it all through the workshop and going riding ASAP .

    :clap I am lucky for the fact I have a local bearing shop run by an old mate I went to school with and every time I go in he asks , what bike is this off and what application on said bike , he then asks what quality I require , my usual response is best , that means I pay more but have peace of mind when travelling through Bum F--k YoudaHo . Case in point was last week I replaced a pair of rear wheel bearings , that cost me $44 with a trade discount of 40 % . That was cheap as far as I am concerned . I don't treat my wheels well , so I need good quality to get me home .

    My old mate also now checks all dimensions of the new bearings with a set of verniers against the old bearing , he tells me the numbering on the seal is not as reliable a size indicator as it once was , Chinese made bearings in particular are sometimes incorrectly marked :dirtdog. He is a major supplier to mining and automotive trades so sees plenty of stock pass through his store .

    Swingarm bearings and linkage bearings are often not available through a bearing supplier so the All Balls(or similar) or OEM are your choices. OEM can be very expensive but a better option I would suggest.

    Seems like it depends on where you are going.
    If hacking around local and not far from home, go the cheap and, from reading this thread, somewhat suspect
    If going on a long trip, eg, OCR or remote area, spend out and get the more reliable

    Also, I do remember reading in a reliable source (will see if I can find it later) that too much grease can be as bad as not enough as it can 'jam' the balls or rollers and then they skid without rolling.

    And whilst on grease, there are appropriate types of grease depending on the application.
    In my GS on the final drive and paralever bearings I use Thixo-grease, a great grease for high load and small amounts of rotation, but not so water proof, but thats ok in that application.
    For bearings that turn a lot and get warm, Castrol waterproof wheel bearing grease is good.

    keep some of the grease in a large syringe and its easy to apply directly in to the races and cage

    Really only relevant on high speed bearings on things like electric motors etc. Also a lot of big bearings are purgeable.
    On your bike grease is good, not just for lubrication but to eliminate voids to trap moisture. Things like your suspension links barely move relatively

    I would also say that things like swingarm bearings that can be a little painful to replace, I'd be going the quality option.

    I had a wheel bearing fail on the road once and a small town bike dealer ordered a replacement from a bearing specialist in a nearby city. Didn't keep track of the brand, but it was expensive ($70?) and failed after about 4 months.

    I'm pretty sure it was a good quality unit, more likely wasn't designed for that use case.

    Since then I'll always try to buy a genuine bearing from the bike manufacturer, to make sure it's the right one.
