I'm considering the two day off-road course at Geere SC and looking for any recommendations / suggestions. I'm new to GSA, just turned 2K miles. Still a little uncomfortable with the beast but gaining confidence. I'm 5' 11", 150 lbs, 73 years old. My 'main' bike is a R1200RS, which I absolutely love, but parking it for awhile to get familiar with my new GSA. Plan to ride TX, NM, CO, KS this summer. Mostly highway but surely some gravel / rocky roads in the west.
I road these roads extensively forty years ago on my Moto Guzzi Ambassador, but haven't been off road in years, since I moved to Mass.
Is this class too much for me? Anyone about my age done it? Any suggestions for practice / exercise ahead of class?

In for the answer as well. I am only 42 so age isn't a factor yet but I would like some formal training as well. One of the reasons I am considering Overland Expo East this year is they offer some classes and the price makes it a steal. I realize the Expo classes may not be as long or detailed as a true riding course but I figure some education is better than none. I have ridden off road just a bit but only a fool would think they could learn more especially at my experience level.

I know a few people who have gone. I think they are unanimous in saying to use the school bikes instead of yours. There's a good chance the bike is going to get banged around.

Are you looking to do the off-road academy? its' not easy. There are a few YouTube clips that paint a good picture. You can decide if you're up for the task.
