Lived a chunk of my life just down the road in Prairie City and would have really enjoyed attending this one. But have to attend a conference in Nashville on this weekend. darn-it.

Can you give any sense of the riding? Routes, types of bikes etc. I may look into spending some extended time up there if there is good off-road riding in the area.

    Thanks!

This area is terrific for dual sport/off road and road riding. What is your preference?

Dual sport/off-road suitable for bigger bikes. Some road is good but off-road preferred.

That's John Day. Incredible dual sport riding. And you don't have to have a GS.

Here are some GS Routes in the John Day/Grant County area. In 2016 and 2017 Rallies, the official GS ride was 180 miles. 12 riders participated in 2016. One guy broke the frame on a Ural, three others went off the road. They all were raving about the ride later that evening. It rained, snowed, hailed and the sun showed briefly.

There isn't an "organized ride" this year. But there's always a bunch of riders that will join you.

I have gone to the John Day, Chief Joseph Rally fifteen of the last twenty years, a great rally. I will not be attending this year due to the requirement of preregistration. I am so sorry they chose to go that route.

Just heard back from "El Presidente". Gate pay is OK!

Not enough volunteers this year, therefore some miscommunication!

2018 Chief Joseph Rally - Almost Here!
The fairgrounds are ready. The catering is ready and the beer garden is "on tap"! If you have not yet registered please do so now. Remember, early registration ends June 11th. Also, if you plan on registering at the gate, recall that gate registration fees DO NOT include your evening meals for Friday and Saturday evening.

We have a great calendar of events including door prizes, vendors, speakers, seminars, rider awards, music, cowboy lunch ride, route maps, and outdoor movies.

Just registered. Looking forward to it. Only question is whether to bring my RT or the KLR.

I have been to the Chief Joseph Rally many times. It's a good one. Excellent riding all over the area. No worries if you reg. at the gate, you can walk to town to several good restaurants nearby for those evening meals. It's cool.
I'll be working with David in the BestRest booth. Stop by and say hey!

I was there Friday morning for the first time attending, with plans of leaving to head west by early afternoon to see friends in Eugene.
Great mild weather and a good turnout for opening day, many were suiting up for the first rally ride to a lunch destination.
Lots of campers at the site with a large green lawn campsite with some shade.

Noticed my rear tire was wearing faster than expected,so headed west a bit early and was able to get tire replaced Sat.AM in Eugene by the good folks at European Motorcycles(BMW) of Western Oregon.
Was fortunate that my trip did not get interrupted in any way, since I had already planned to be in Eugene for a day or two.

I will definitely be back for a longer visit in the next couple years,as we will be retiring/moving to WA state.

FYI-they have a day pass option at the rally that suited my needs just fine.
