Well, gotta let the old bank account recover before anything more than a new rear tire. Probably going to go with a Heidenau if they make a sidecar tire in the right (17') size. I'm going to try to get it registered and plated manana but since it's an "out-of-state" used vehicle I know from experience that it is gonna be a real frickin' hassle. Oh well I don't care because in the words of Gollum from the LOTR trilogy and movies, "THE PRECIOUS IS OURS!"

    Congratulations!!

That is a really great rig and it is a blast to ride. The platform of a KLR and a redone Sputnik is very solid and should get you lots of thumbs up an smiles. My dog is still pissed at me for selling it. I would have kept it if I didn't have two HP2s to work on.

Pictures?? Does it look like this??

It looks JUST like that, with the exception of a pretty sturdy plastic case mounted to the tail rack. We're getting a mix of freezing rain and snow flurries or I'd have already taken "SCARLET" up into the Santa Fe Forest Service where it will spend much of the coming year and gotten some new pics for posting! Rest assured that as soon as sunny weather returns (on Tuesday is the forecast) I'll be doing that. In the meantime here's a couple of pics taken on Thursday by the seller.

    Nice pics -

Your new rig looks fantastic in that setting. I see that he changed out the rear shock spring to the heavier yellow spring I gave him. I bet the rig handles better with the proper weight coil in the rear! Happy trails - keep the rubber side down!!!

Thanks, I'll do that except of course when I've showing off and flying the car!

Jeff--my post was referencing tongue-in-cheek the O.P complaining in an earlier post that KLR's lacked power.

    Hey Drone,
Got it - I thought I had missed something. BTW - I do miss the sidecar rig!

I have been thinning the heard and want to end up with two HP2s and a little bike with a low seat height for around Philly. My XChallenge never get ridden because the HP2s put too big of a smile on my face. I hope all is well with you out west.

As far as getting back in to the hack world, I would love to pick up an old BMW rig, but people seem to be asking crazy high prices for OK BMW rigs.

    Have a great Spring!!

There was one on the Craigslist of Santa Fe, NM -- a 1978 R100/S--Ural rig built by the late, great Perry Bushong of DFW. I think it was listed for $9500.

As for the KLR650/Sputnik rig I just bought, I'm thinking about swapping my 2008 KLR685 for the 2004 KLR650 and then selling said KLR650 since I'm making the final transition from 2-wheeled to 3-wheeled motorcycles. ThanX Father Time you old bastard!

Perry's Sidecar's was sold by his widow Mary Bushong to their employees. Here's a link to the "For Sale" portion of their new website. There are two Airhead sidehack rigs for sale there; https://www.lovekraftmotorwerks.com/for-sale-1
