Buell Metisse cyclone

    First pic is of the last of a batch of bronze welded nickel plate chro-moly frames for sportster engines by MRD Metisse from about 15 years ago. It's mocked up on the bench before I parted with a silly amount of cash for it. I'll be building it as a road going scrambler in a classic but with a modern touch or two and with a Buell M2 Cyclone motor in the region of 90HP.

    2nd pic is back in my garage with the ally tank that needs mods and a set of Yamaha R6 forks wedged in place which will be modded much. rear end of frame shortened to fit scrambler seat and bodywork currently being made up by MRD.

    And 4th a pic of my last project which still lives here, might have to be sold to fund the Metisse though.

    Thanks for the welcome, here 'tis. I built the last bike on supermoto junkie as I'm that way inclined. This one fits better here though, I like to share building bikes for opinions from around the globe, mostly for motivation if I lose the will to build and also just to share all the ups and downs. I hope to post up pretty much daily on this project so will do later today, criticism welcome too but not always accepted :D

    Shaved my legs today! I'm using conventional R6 forks (2001 43mm) with a single R1 blue spot front and rear so removed all lugs from R/H side and a couple from left, removed a dent and ready for vapour blast and powder coat gloss black. The bike will be black and gold, had a vision!
    Will be upgrading to gold spot callipers by removing plugs and re-anodising gold :D

    I bought myself a 2001 8K mile M2 Cyclone engine for strong money but a pre-rubber mount Buell motor is in demand for custom builds. I stripped the motor down, top end and cases and it seems bang on for the stated mileage. Still got cross hatching on the bores so just de-coked and re-ground the valves, polished etc and painted up the barrels and heads. Quite a lot of hours actually involved for a couple of lines here. We are lucky with Buells in Europe as we got the hot 'B' cams as standard while the US got stock sportster, so high comp pistons, lighter flywheels, big valve heads and cams give 90HP over 65HP from the sporty motor. I was going to get the heads looked at by my tuner but the reply was 'Buy the CNC Screamin eagle or don't bother, too much work for too little gain' Still, 90HP and 90ft/lb torque should be pretty fine for the weight of this machine.

    Yowser Seppo, that's something else! Mine will be a little more subtle, some gold, black and silver.
    I picked up my anodising this morning, made up some ally pushrod tubes and head bolt covers. Gave the anodisers my Beringer master as a guide, well pleased.
    And my fork tubes arrived :clap. Made by ABE engineering in the UK and Ti nitride coated, they are awesome.

    Golden shower anyone? :wink:

    that color looks very cool.

    We had big problems getting the seals for the pushrod covers on. they had a slightly bigger diameter after the powder coating and the seals from the HD gasket kit wouldn't fit anymore. we used slightly slimmer aftermarket seals that normally don't seal very well...
    another thing we did, if you look closely at the bottom of the pushrod covers, you can see that we drilled and tapped some tiny screws in to push the seal down a bit more. i hope that works since this area is a known weak point.

    Sounds like a good idea, where the roll pin locators are, I'll have a look. I made my pushrod tubes up exactly size for size with the originals which had no leaks so all should be fine

    those Buell heads are fine,a red shift cam will take it close to the region of 100rwhp.

    I don't have the advantage Jaglite has of a team of tiny techs but I do have a proper skilled sheet metal man. The frame, tank and an old seat unit went to him yesterday. The tank doesn't fit quite but it's close, I didn't want the teardrop shape they made for this frame so got a scrambler style one from the storeroom built for god knows what. The metal man set about it and half an hour later, a real good fit.

    This is an old seat unit while mine is being made up. The guy is doing the work in his lunch hours so might take a week. Still some work to do.

    This gap will be blended in with ally sheet.

    One side is lower than the other at the front, the guy is a perfectionist so this will be addressed too as will the dents.

    This is a bike built for a customer in Italy in 97 which I think is probably the same batch as my frame. It shows the teardrop style tank that I could have had, they wanted a flatracker look whereas I want more scrambler.

    This is the parallel twin in development at the moment. The seat and sidepanels fit my frame so I'm getting some made up from the same pattern. I'll probably run 17" rear and 19" front the same as that seems to work.

    The new bikes are powered by Métisse’s own air/oil-cooled, eight-valve, 1,000cc 360-degree parallel-twin, good for 97 horsepower at 8,000rpm. The engine was designed by ex-F1 engineer Tim Baker, and will be manufactured for Métisse Motorcycles by Specialised Engine Services, one of the leading companies in the British Formula One supply chain.

    Beautiful titanium bolts, are they needed? Well that's not the point is it :D Should get the Yamaha tool in the post tomorrow to strip the brakes.

    Did a little prep on the R6 bottom yoke, took out the bottom of the stem mount for piece of mind, will make up new stem next week I hope.

    A little weld to make sure the lock stops work.

    Ready for vapour blasting. Did want to anodise but cast might be iffy and now you'll see the weld in it so just plain.

    Not sure what to do with this lot. I did want to anodise black with the middle section gold. I polished the middle and sent it off, no luck it's some crappy alloy that won't anodise. Might just vapour blast the lot? Buell heads are tucked way up in the frame so tend to get more corroded than a sporty.
