Hey all I'm new to the adventure game I've been doing it wrong for years I've found for some reason I've been strapping all my gear and food to my own, back and walking..... that's right walkimg miles of trail to beautiful areas of the central coast. While my backpacking has been great and I would never tale back or quit such an amazing past time i am loving having an adventure bike that can, take me on a backcountry trek with a bit of adrenalin kicked in which I so dearly miss from my younger days.
I'm looking for some other adventure riders on the central coast looking to take some day rides and some weekend excursions with. I've found a few trails but if there's one thing I know about SLO and SB county backcountry lovers we keep the good trails to ourselves and off the net as much as possible so don't post them here let's get together and ride.

I just sent this to you in a pm, but figured I’d post it on the thread to see if anyone has any input.

I am just north of you in Monterey. I have just moved to CA and in a similar boat as you, looking for tracks. This is what I have found thus far (don’t hold your breath bc it’s not much).

-Gloria rd which turns into la Gloria road. It runs east /west between 101 and 25. It’s prob 20 mile stretch of dirt road. You could ride river road north, jump over to Gloria/la Gloria and then ride 25 s.

    - old coast road is just north of Big Sur. It’s only about 12-15 miles. It starts or ends at bigsby bridge and starts/ends at Andrew Moreno park.

    - I just created a track and have not run it yet. Send me you phone num or email and I’ll send it to you. This is prob the most appealing to you because it starts in posts and ends at Kirk creek camp ground. It picks up coast road, goes to lost valley creek, to a state road ( can’t remember number) then links up with nacimiento road.

    NOT in PM,
    - summit road, route 9, freedom parkway are all good back country roads but are up in Santa Cruz area.

Lastly, I sent the guys a BDR a note asking for some of the tracks for central CA, but have not heard back. Perhaps if enough of us bug them, they will send us part of the trail.(prob wishful thinking but ya never know)

I know Summit Rd. But route 9 and freedom parkway I do not. I tried google mapping but didn't find anything. Could you point me in the right direction?

Route 9 is Hwy. 9 from Saratoga to Santa Cruz. All paved, but nice.

I road this last weekend. Not a bad road route. 35 north was closed on the north side of 17. I was able to ride it for 8ish miles couldn’t go all the way to Alice’s Restaurant so we turned back to bear creek road to rte9/ boulder creek.

If you ever get to the west side of the valley, I live in clovis and have a number of back country excursions. Kings Canyon to Yosemite off road, multiple other excursions as well.

Just an FYI I do believe that the Old Coast Rd from the Bixby Bridge to Molera State Park is closed still, South Coast Road is open.

A great loop is over La Gloria at Gonzales south on 25 to the San Benito Lateral then Old Hernandez Road which will take you to Old Coalinga Road which you can then either double back or continue down Old Coalinga Road to Clear Creek then to New Idria and out to Panoche, over Browns Valley Road back to Tres Pinos. Dirt sections include parts of Old Hernandez, (sign says the road is closed but it is not, just a small creek crossing) Clear Creek to New Idria is BLM and requires a permit and gate combo but is pretty cool riding with an out and back to a place called San Joaquin Rocks and some side trips. I've been in the area for about 4 years now and have to say the riding is somewhat limited.

New Idria outside Hollister is fun place to ride. And there are some great paved roads getting out there.

Schroeder whats up man i live in Nipomo. Born and raised Orcutt boy. Hope the ride was good! Yeah I know around here damn good as well just not for adventure riding. I'm new to the sport and would love a few trails i went on years back with the jeep but they are closed now ie. Rattlesnake ridge ride throigh colson canyon to new cuyama. Amd i know rock front miranda pines etc. Guess im looming for rides that would take me on a real adventure with some camping along the way. I lile that you have a group of riders im solo only right now (i dont stink or anything lol just new to the adv riding) i lile to meet up sometime for a ride would be awesome to have some ppl to share in this with.

Haven't been out there in a couple of years, but Peach Tree Road east of San Lucas off 198 is fun. Kinda goaty and very narrow, but fun to ride. Vineyard Canyon Road is very similar. Best done in spring when it's cool, everything is green. Wild flowers galore. Lots of dirt roads to explore out that way. If you're not familiar with the area, have a GPS or map.
