I'm now about 80/20 to get there, up from 50/50.
Hello all, 5 weeks today until the DR (cockroach carriage) get together at the Blackwood Pub and I need to get a bit of an idea of numbers so that we cab secure the special school or not. To that end can we get a show of hands.
Dunno about us - flying the bikes home through LAX was going to be more than they are worth, so we're sending them by boat. Stupid US laws (it's a two-beer story) delayed us, plus their Labour Day holiday, so not sure if we will have them in time to attend. Plus of course, there's clearing them back into Australia... We've applied for permission to reimport our Aus-registered, owned from new, ADR complying bikes, but have to wait for that to be granted before shipping them...
I am going to try to get there, have find dog sitter, will be camping.
The old DR needs a run, gotta get that 500k done.
Looking good for this one , camping
Three and a half weeks to go, we are just sorting out accommodation and such and will post details etc very soon.
So what is the go with accommodation?
Camping is okay with us.
Bugger. Bikes won't be here in time. They are STILL being held up by US Customs, because their Border Farce do not know how to do their jobs and let us happily ride into the country without completing any paperwork for the bikes - making the concept of "SuperFortress America" seem a bit of a sham. So, the bikes can't leave, because they never officially arrived...
It seems that job-creation for otherwise unemployable bureaucrats is not a solely Australian phenomenon after all.
We have however, been graciously granted permission to bring our own Australian-registered bikes back into Australia, so that's one small victory over stupidity.
So if we make it, it'll be by rattly, smelly, rusty old ute, not our rattly, smelly, old rusty old DRs....
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm I'll pencil this event into my busy schedule, although, It will be a last minute decision to throw the swag on the DR and head south, to catch up with my Vic friends.
Ok here's the guts on the accommodation. The special school has a 5 bedroom house with 25 bunks in it as well a shower, stove, kettle, inside toilet etc. All the comforts of home for $25 per person. We have payed for the house and any surplus monies will be put across the bar. There is some camping available at caravan park should people wish to tent it. I will be staying there on the Friday night as well to get an early start on the next days riding so if anyone wants to get there Friday you won't have to drink by yourself.
Two weeks to go
I'm in. I will take a berth in the special school full of DR owners. Sounds a little sus
Would any DR owners like to come on a Ride on Sat (led by a KTM of course)?
That is a wise move DeeCee taking those DR's with you as they can tow you out if the KTM breaks down.
Hopefully cousin Phil will not have some type of injury this weekend, fingers crossed.
See I like the first part of this post but not the second, anyone would think I am accident prone.
If the shoe fits
I could be a starter on this...are you guys open to newcomers? I'm on a kato1290r ..know the wombat pretty well as I live at Sunbury.
All are welcome, even KTM Riders but know your days are numbered come the holocaust.
There are still a few beds left at the special school house for $25 per night. See you there.
It's Bathurst weekend.. i love the race day so no doubt that will draw me back home but it would defo be good to meet some more adventure riders
The worst thing about a DR rally is that if you decide at the last minute not to go you can't use the my bike broke down excuse ... no ones going to believe that.
Have a great weekend guys, but don't forget the seasonal closures, and plenty of them . And Rangers tend to get out and about frequently in the area, and a few weeks ago police on dirt bikes were leaving Greendale as we came through.
Anyone looking for good bitumen, a favourite morning or afternoon blast is Bacchus Marsh, Pentland Hills Rd to Myrniong, Greendale, Blackwood to Trentham for coffee. Watch for damp patches under the trees towards Trentham. Then onto Daylesford, or the other direction to Tylden and Kyneton.
Some great sweepers on these roads!
