Thanks for coming all! Good food, good people, and lots of two wheeled banter is never a bad combo. I believe someone had mentioned that they hadnt ever seen indoor trials......well....2017 FIM X-Trials are mostly available on youtube, and theyre in 1080p now so killer quality,
I think im just gonna keep letting lawnmowers break down in my back yard until I have a sweet trials course......
Dave rich environment tonight
I’d like to return to the forum and participate in this thread. Maybe we can try this again… If it’s possible, please keep negative opinions of my motorcycle to yourself. I love my bike, it does everything I (meaning me) want, goes everywhere I want to go as fast as I want to get there, and it fits me like a glove. I put knobbies on it and have been riding dirt/mud/gravel forest roads this winter without any problems. Seriously, the thing's a little goat. I think some of you would be surprised where it will go. It just won't go there as fast as some of your bikes.
I did a fun loop on Saturday. I assume everyone’s ridden it but it was new to me. Went from Woods Creek to ShotPouch, up to Harlan-Burnt Woods, down to Harlan and hit the beginning of Mary’s Peak Road. Took that all most all the way up to Mary’s Peak. Road until snow covered the road and turned around and headed back down to Alsea Highway. A good couple of hours in the forest. Poked around some logging roads, got stopped at few gates. I did find the other end of NF-61. When the gate is open on the Woods Creek side you can get to Harlan without going down Harlan-Burnt Woods Rd.
I rode a Triumph Scrambler and thought it was a pretty cool bike, but what do I know? I ride a KLR 650. Not a very welcome mc to the Corvallis crowd.
Have you taken the road from Burnt woods out to the coast via Elk creek? Maybe our paths will cross someday, I'd ride with you if you can lower your self to ride with a KLR ?
PocketSprocket - All I want to do is ride and explore and I'll do that with anyone who is pleasant to be around. I'm not even remotely competitive. I try to ride fast enough that I have fun but slow enough that I can avoid collisions on blind corners.
I have ridden Harlan Road that runs along Big Elk Creek. Is that what you are referring to? Next "Sun Break" weekend I'm going to ride Hilltop Rd (NF-31) just West of Harlan off Harlan Rd. See if I can get to Sunnyridge Rd and then N Beaver Creek (NF-128). I really wish we were closer to spring!
True that, as I get older my cold weather endurance is waining. Yes that is the road along Elk creek, ride it out to the back bay, thru Toledo on over to Newport (great twistys) for fish n chips, down the coast, left at Waldport dogleg over to Lobster valley, take the Alsea cutoff and back to the valley
Hoprunner, since I am the one who made comments, and got blamed for it, that you got your feeling hurt because you thought....thought... we were making fun of your bike, let me say I was trying to keep you safe and no one was making fun of your bike. But looks like others thought I / we were. So be it. Bench racing over a keyboard is nothing like the real thing, face to face, man to man. And, yes, you can die of exposure if you break a leg where you have been riding by yourself. Flat simple, no bones about it. A known safer riding number is 3. One to stay with a down rider and one to go get help. And yes you have a heaver bike then most DS riders. You really don't want try to ride any of the Dual Sport Event A or AA routes on you Triumph. Well, second thought, maybe you do need to figure that out yourself..try the Black Dog up Hood River next year.
And for KLR riders, ride what you like. No big deal to me and others who ride different bikes. I am not riding it. I will have to say the last KLR I rode felt like a tractor compared to my Honda XR650R. I hope I never have to ride one again. But I would if that was all I had.
All these comments are mine. Not the Flat Tail group as a whole. You got any beef, talk to me face to face or send me a pm.
Don't hang your dirty laundry out for other bored do gooders to chime in on.
And yes I am pissed off on this whole miscommunication BS people read into someone else post and gets it wrong. Mind your own F,,,,business.
My feeling weren’t hurt, I’m just not going to put up with your superiority complex weirdly combined with a victim mentality. I don’t need to be here. I’m here trying to make friend and find fun dirt roads.
I’m 56, military vet, flown solo cross country flights, done all kinds of shit. If I kill myself in the forest that’s my business. If you want to talk about cool back roads or places to see, great! Otherwise go mother someone else.
