Duck or Duct...or how about "high speed tape"
And created as a tongue in cheek response to everyone mispronouncing the actual correct DUCT tape. I've found it to be a badly inferior product as well btw.
Actually, you could go either way with the name. DUCK tape was a name for cloth backed tape used over a hundred years ago. The word DUCK tape was actually in dictionaries as far back as the early 1900's. Later a similar cloth backed tape was used in construction. After WWII, it was manufactured in silver color to match duct work and people in the trades started referring to it as DUCT tape. It wasn't until the 1950's that the extra water proof outer layer was applied giving the tape the look we are familiar with today. So, it's origin is DUCK. However, it became popularly known, and used for a time as DUCT. I'd say it's fine to use either term. Sorry, I'm bored today and the history nerd in me took over.
Dang, I hate it when I learn something from this site.
Damn JR..you kicked butt! Also matches my '62's "Sateen Silver" paint and often referred to as "100 mph tape" or as seen once on F16 "600 mph tape"...

And if it needs "brakes" I don't think he means linings or adjustments. He means, in his pot stupor, he FORGOT TO INSTALL ANY KIND OF STOPPING SYSTEM.
