Very similar to the bent bars on my RZ...
Ha! So I go over to a buddies house in Texas (Currently working there) and while he's showing me the barn find stash of the century (like dozens of chevelles and impalas) there's a newer GS500F sitting under a covered work shed... I ask if I can have it, he smiles and said "take anything you like".
We're gutting the engine and harness out tomorrow and shipping it to my shop. The bike took a shot to the front end and nobody cared much to fix it so it sat for a few years. Still runs though and a whole lot better than mine.
This build is gonna be a mint! All the pieces and lucky finds are all coming together! Can't wait to start building. I'm so excited my piss is fizzy!
Ask and yee shall receive!
Big crusty box with an even crustier freebie engine showed up today.
Oooo air-cooled, how retro of you Levi!
That made me laugh.. a lot.. and I'm a miserable f*cker. Trying a less ambitious GS500 DR650 mix-up myself as it goes.
The hive wish to see .....
Soon I hope. I need to get my welder working (wire feed playing up) to weld up a steering stop on the GS headstock.. I also have a couple of concerns regarding the GS stem in the DR bottom yoke/tree (see my other post). Oh yes and the motor rattles just off idle and the carbs are spewing fuel. I'm hoping that's just cam end-play and stuck float needles...
Heres a quick pic of mine but I'll try not to hijack this thread..
too much! Starting point was 250 quid 'beater'rebuilt DR caliper with SS pistons and fitted new speedo cable, made bracket for instruments, stem swap with GS500 (may need re-work..) Tomasselli light brackets from a breaker SV650 rear shock boauht and ready for swap.. new Mitas E07 for rear I think..
Soon my minions. Soon!
Got some minor repair work to do to the CRF500L and some engine machining on my van... then the fun starts! Two weeks!
Let the games begin!
We've had this jig kit for like a year so I finally got off my ass and went and bought the steel to assemblen it today.
I'm pretty impressed with the kit. Thing is really very stouht. Gonna be making some fiddly bits and doodads to locate the suspension mounts. I'll start building a frame after that.
Who makes the jig kit? Rotisserie is a nice feature.
It's a Chop Source kit.
i spy piston port and case reed derbi motors.
Of course you do. This is Motomatic after all.
Tell Nate Colby says whats up.
Before you cut up the dr frame are you going to try and sit the 500 engine in it to see how it fits?
Not chopping up the DR frame.
Building a new one. Just using the DR frame to locate all the suspension bits and get the head angle right.
