I was wondering if anyone had room at there site for a tent and truck. I was hoping to come up on Thursday. Haven't had any luck locating a site near 103 on the park web site.
I'm out. Site 37 will be available after soon.
Just checking in for more detailed current weather/road conditions and I get all this for free!
The DV FB page shows quite a bit of snow on south pass was wondering about steelt pass.
The Reno crew is going the weekend of Feb 3-6. Were putting together other rides, maybe out the park if Saline is not passable.
Due to road conditions, I'm out. I'm pulling a travel trailer and don't want to deal with going over the Sierras.
I've got spot 29 reserved and will cancel it tomorrow morning.
Road Conditions via FB this morning ...
CURRENT ROAD CLOSURES:
Titus Canyon Road
West Side Road
Emigrant Canyon Road
Mustard Canyon Road
Dante's View Road
Devil's Golf Course
Saline Valley North Pass & South Pass - Expect deep snow. South Pass is currently blocked by a vehicle stuck in a 3-foot snow drift.
Chains and snow tires are required on 395 north of Big Pine, CA - and 395 is CLOSED 13 miles north of Bishop, CA as of 11:00 am 1/23
Storm system may continue today. Amargosa River is flowing in the southern end of the park.
With the rain ending, I suspect several of those will be open by the weekend. Otherwise might be a LOT of drinkin' & teasin' Razr!
weather is forecast to be clear and in the upper 50's-upper 60's this week and in the 70's next monday.
it's the desert.
South/North Pass will have snow as usual.
but the rest of the roads will be fine by this weekend...
as TSsurf said, chillax. everything will be fine.
also, drive in from Highway 15 through Baker. no worries on elevation.
but seriously, in the next few days things are going to warm up.
you're creepin me out man.
This was furnace creek this morning.
that doesnt look like furnace creek?????? thats somewhere in the mtns.
You forgot your golf clubs. The driving range is just around the corner. :)
Quite the transformation there in Furnace Creek.
I'm out, thought the stars were going to align then......not so much.
For those planning to ride to Saline Valley, I just looked up the mileage for the following route to Saline Valley from Furnace Creek:
1. Furnace Creek Ubehebe Crater
2. Ubehebe Crater to Eureka Dunes
3. Eureka Dunes to Steele Pass to Warm Springs
4. Warm Springs to Lippincott Mine Road to Tea Kettle Junction
5. Tea Kettle to Ubehebe Crater to Furnace Creek
There is no gas along this route as North/South Pass are closed. This is a 245 mile loop that would take all day to complete unless you want to camp at the hot springs in Saline Valley.
This also assumes no impassable washouts on Steele Pass or Lippincott. Could be dicey riding into Saline Valley this weekend until someone reports on these two passes.
we do this loop EVERY YEAR.
it's no big deal.
if you are riding, put a 2 or 5 gallon gas can in your lap and stash it in the desert near Ubehebe, then you have gas when you return.
it's seriously not a big deal.
you do need to keep up your speed and get through the harder sections, Lippencott and Steel Pass, without trail drama.
and the mileage is 260.
South pass update, your answer. Nothing actionable on lippencott.
My crew? We are out. We will ride something else this weekend. Have fun.
