Totally agree with you, this can end up in some legal action if there’s no evidence to support your allegations Mr. Rand (Freedom).

Sorry to have hijacked this post that was originally about the beauty of Ecuador and the routes that we provided on our site and on this site. The post is originally about how someone got inspired to ride in Ecuador, gathered the free information provided by my company and then went on to promote a competing company here on this page. I felt the need to interject, note that we were sorry we couldn't help and get a little credit for the work we did.

I am sorry this is taking such a huge diversion. If you want to continue to speak about this, you may feel free to PM me. I will be happy to provide you with a screen shot to show you that my quote unquote accusations about advertising bikes to be tax-free are not without evidence and are in fact correct and doing so is in fact illegal under Ecuadorian law. I made no accusations about bikes not being well maintained. I specifically said that they are "better equipped" - meaning, for example, that we have higher-quality luggage systems installed, more robust crash bars and other accessories on our bikes that are at the top end with manufacturers such as Hepco & Becker and Mosko Moto, AltRider, Touratech and other companies with whom we have partnered over the years. I see that English is not your first language, PeterP, so I urge you to go back and read what I wrote more carefully and not get yourself so upset. A lawsuit? Really? .. LOL

I am happy to see other motorcycle rental companies in Ecuador, as I stated before. I think it is like Las Vegas - and the more hotels and casinos the better. I welcome competition if they follow the same rules and laws as everyone else. Readers can search through this web site and forum themselves to see that we have had thousands of happy customers. Again, we provide a wealth of information on our web site, contribute to many projects, sponsor rallies and other activiies in the USA and around the world and we will continue to do so, even if it does not seem to go appreciated by some people who use our information and rent from other companies. That is the way of the world.

To the cool community reading this post. My name is David Garces, co-owner of the Group Sleipner and one of its Companies: Ecuador Bike Rental.
According to the tax incentive to new companies, it states that in Ecuador a company recently formed has a fiscal benefit of around 22% of tax exemption for the first 3 years of operation. This gives Ecuador Bike Rental a great advantage to be able to present affordable prices to the market. To this, added the fact that its fixed operation costs are small (given the fact this company just started), gives us the advantage to compete against older motorcycle rental companies or tour operators for that matter. We are aware of the tax obligations and laws for tour operators in Ecuador.

The board of directors will like to address this matter and ease the classy people on this chat, letting them know that we are subject to every law in Ecuador and comply with every tax law applied by Superintendencia de Companias del Ecuador, and we are able to cooperate with any audit needed, either by SRI (the equivalent to IRS) or the Tourism Affairs Department in Ecuador. So as you see there is nothing unethical nor ilegal in the service or prices that we provide. The goal on the company has always been a friendly treat to our customers based on legal and ethical values, and we are grateful for our friends now, that had reply on our behalf. With this we know we're doing things right and people out there are finding our services rather outstanding.

As for the motorcycles we use, they are subject to a strict mechanical checks supervised by a team of specialized mechanics after every tour

In regards to the name, if the market is out there, its pretty obvious that our mark will be english speakers on its majority, and since we both RENT, BIKES in ECUADOR... the obvious market strategy was to use those positioning words, stating always that its a company own by Sleipner, as it is in every logo we use or advertisement we place out there. This does not confuse the market.

As for the material on the company's web, it has been carefully checked to make sure, there is no cross lines nor disloyal competition between the two companies. No tour are alike. Whatever our clients decides to do on their own is their business, we only provide support for them to accomplish their adventures.

To Mr. Rand, PeterP above was right on the local laws, defamation is a crime easily penalized here. So unless he has evidence on what he is stating, we strongly suggest him to watch his comments as our legal department won't be this nice next time.

With this statement we hope we have clarified any concerns about the legitimacy of the company.

Happy rides to everyone, we hope to see you in Ecuador soon!

David. Welcome to the forum. I am sorry this is the first interaction with you and that we are getting off on the wrong foot. I have not accused you of anything nor defamed your company and I think you should bring your hostile tone down a bit.

We too started our company with the same tax breaks and status as you reference above but there are certain goods and services that every company in Ecuador has to pay tax on - regardless of when the company was founded. Everyone is subject to the same sales tax - there is no legal way around that.

This is my understanding as confirmed by our law firm, the biggest and best reputed in Ecuador. I would be happy to explain it to you in person, as we have been in business here in Ecuador - a country with a challenging fiscal and operational environment - for over 9 years.

There are many things we could work on together such as promoting safer motorcycling through the ANT, working together to lobby the Minister of Tourism to help us promote motorcycling at international travel fairs and other projects I have been working on for years. I would be happy to have you on my side in these endeavours.

Please PM me as I would like to invite you to lunch in the coming week if you have the time. It would be a pleasure to meet you.

Thanks again for the awesome ride report matt300. Ya’ made me hungry!

We did a group trip a three years ago to Ecuador and the Galapagos- beautiful country and people.

Hope you don’t mind but I’ve used your link to check out Ecuador Bike Rental. Love the idea of going local and would definitely contact David on our next trip south- but I’ll use your tracks.

    Sticky side down!

I rented from Sleipner / Ecuador Bike Rental in Feb 2018, the bikes were in top shape, and well equipped with hand guards, full crash bars, bash plate and excellent hard top case and soft side bags - the same I run on my own bike- price was fair with out the fine print surprises like Freedom has. The advice on routes was spot on and they are real bike enthusiasts. Ive been through 17 countries and Ecuador has a seriously hilarious lack of straightaways! great tour and I'll be posting photo's...

Oooooooof. This ride report had an unseen twist of its own, and it wasn't the roads. From a great ride report with beautiful pictures of a country I'd like to see one day, to leaning about Ecuadorian tax laws. This had everything. Does it get any better than that? On a serious note, I hope you two find common ground and work out your differences. Once the word lawyers gets thrown around, shit can get ugly fast. Good luck with both your businesses.
