    Hey Now!
Being the intermittent reporting on Debi and Hunter (me) as they explore their home state, Alaska.
Short trip plan: Barge/truck bikes from Ketchikan Alaska to Fairbanks; Start travels in Fairbanks; Travel; Get to Skagway to meet up with Alaska ferry to return to Ketchikan; Start planning next trip.
Debi is on a new Honda Rebel 500. Only mods/farkles are DrySpec soft panniers, National windscreen, 3-amp charging port, and a Crampbuster. She has been riding for about four years.
I am on a Yamaha Super Teneré, 2013 year. Only mods/farkles are a Seat Concepts Low-profile seat, a Crampbuster, an unknown skid plate, and Givi Trekkers panniers.
We are in our sixties and have no need for speed.

    Hey Now!
Moto maintenance day. We are staying with friends near Two Rivers. Big garage available (way better than a gravel parking lot) so I tackled a persistent problem with the Deere (Teneré's name due to its resemblance to a tractor (plus it is far more polite sounding when irritated))
Tenerés have a pivot point for the shifter that consistently hangs up when shifting. A known problem with a simple fix. Lube it. Ah, but the factory uses a dot of thread lock that requires some herking on a #6 hex key. Got it loose and saw why it was hanging up. Full of grit and dried lube, all the job then was clean, lithium grease and reassemble. Why I hadn't gotten it done earlier is beyond me.

    Hey Now!
Meetings are completed. Time to get on the road.
Today is planned to be a run up the Steese to the Elliott, out to Minto. Yes, that's right, we plan to ride right past the Dalton turnoff. I would like to see St Barnabus Episcopal church in Minto.
While I finished my meeting, Debi rode back out to Two Rivers and played with sled dogs at Rhyno Kennel.
I am enjoying the much better fuel economy that comes with longer rides. Having said this, we will fill both supplemental cans before taking off today.

    Hey Now!
So, we did not get to Minto, started off too late. We did make it to the Dalton Highway sign.
As we pull up beside the sign, I hear a "squee!" of excitement. A woman is hauling her husband over to my Moto and pointing to the right-side pannier. Sure enough, it was the VMI decal that was the source of adoration, not me. Guy was class of '75. I'm '80.
Next, we were setting up the camera for our photo in front of the sign and the driver/operator of a tour offered to take the shot for us. Debi and I recognized him at the same moment. It was Ken Anderson, a multiple time finisher of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race.
Which just illustrates how small Alaska is.

    Hey Now!
I'm running these updates through my Kindle. Hotel WiFi is being hammered by visitors. Once I get solid connection I'll try to get some photos up. Thanks for your patience.
