I know it's early, but setting far away goals gives me all the time in between to get excited about it and prepare, which to me is half the fun. I was thinking maybe we can organize a SM1000 ride in June 2018? http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/smokey-mountains-1000.1233049/
This way we have plenty of time to organize traveling options, request vacations, etc.. Interested?

I love camping, so I'd say camping, but I know some people prefer more comfort. Maybe we can find spots that have both cabins and camping so everybody is happy.

Guys - This may be a bit premature, but.... my wife and I just bought a vacation house in Hiawassee Ga. If you check out the SM500 route, Hiawassee is within a few miles at one point. If we're up there when you decide to do this trip, we "might" be able to provide some tent spots, lodging, bike storage, support, trailer parking, etc. My wife is not active in the whole ADV thing like my bro and I but I might be able to get her on board (pending the numbers in your group and timing). Heck, depending on timing, my bro and I might join in the fun since we planned to do the same trip next summer.

That's a generous offer thank you, we should definitely keep that in mind.

I would be interested in participating in at least portion of the ride. However, throwing a bunch of riders together with differing abilities and equipment can create an awkward situation, as I have learned from earlier events. That being said, should an "Old & Slow" contingent develop, count me in!

I would be in for a 500 - 600 mile option . Tow the 690 up there and have at it . I would also be interested in sharing a room . Is June locked ? could we do it sooner?

500 would work better for me. If the dates work out I have room for an extra bike on my truck, if anyone wants to carpool.

As this thread progresses, I'll monitor it for dates to see if we might be in Hiawassee at the same time. My brother and I still plan to ride the SM 500 this summer but we don't know when it will be. Depending on your group size/s, riding skill levels and rider availability, I see the potential for multiple dates happening. Maybe we'll join one of the groups if it works out or maybe we'll see each other on the route.

My wife has graciously agreed to let me help out when we are up there. We're open to some truck, trailer and bike parking at our place. I'm not sure how many rigs we can accommodate but I'm sure 3-4 trucks with trailers would not be a problem. Our property isn't real level ground but some areas would work for tent camping. We've got a 2 car garage with power and I'll probably have some basic tools and my hydraulic bike stand (not a lift) up there by the summer. There's also a 20' x 20' aluminum awning that spans between the garage and an enclosed RV building that's empty. If we are there, I usually have beer, spiced rum, hot grill, a beautiful view of Lake Chatuge and some other comfort items to share with fellow ADVers..

PM me if you think the Town of Hiawassee might be a starting, stopping or overnight spot for any of the trips. Here's a few teaser Photos in case you stop by :beer
