Packed the kid and wife and went on a cross-country trip.
    Disclaimers:
    1. While my 17 year old son and I have taken many “Man Trips” since he was little my wife would not let us take this epic trip without her so we are traveling with one female.
    2. Due to the constraints of time and safety and the fact my son is only 17 and my wife joined us etc ... we pulled the bikes to New Mexico on a trailer behind our truck. I know for some purist this is unacceptable. I beg forgiveness ahead of time.

We packed Wednesday when I got off work, borrowed a trailer from a friend and loaded the bikes. My wife got off work at midnight last Thursday morning and we were rolling North on US19 out of Pinellas at 0100 hours.

Here we are entering Texas last Thursday at 2:39pm 1E508D4D-570B-428F-B5B6-75B853CE984D.jpeg

Friday morning we were eating breakfast at the Pecos River Cafe in the town of Carlsbad (both friendly and delicious) 526E6EC4-DD96-46AE-97D8-4628450887FF.jpeg and then down to the Caverns.

Here we are riding out of the park. Yes, we are in the pic if you zoom.

Up to Albuquerque for the night and with an unusually hot day of 107 degrees. If someone tells me it’s a dry heat I will throat punch them. By the end of the day we were peeing tea and terribly dehydrated.
I have a new appreciation for cowboys and pioneers.

By Friday we visited the friendly Walmart and purchased hydration backpacks. Then headed to Flagstaff.

In the last pic we were tired of fighting the wind and traffic and decided to take an old road that paralleled I-40. We got the jump on my wife while she went through Taco Bell. I told my son (Via Sena) it would be funny if she passed us on 40 and as soon as I said it I looked over my shoulder and there she was cruising up the intersatate. She was kind enough to snap the photo while she was driving. On our way to Flagstaff we had to make the obligatory stop in Winslow:

We got to Flagstaff with daylight left so I started looking at the map. Seems 89A between Flagstaff and Sedona has a nice place with some switchbacks. Rode down before dark. Po-Po had some bikers from Maricopa pulled over which changed the mood.
Next morning we went back and rode it again.

If you look close you can see the road multiple times in the first photo.

Sunday we were at the amazing wonder that is the Grand Canyon and my son stood on the edge of the cliff because A. I am a terrible parent and B. Riding a motorcycle is not inherently dangerous enough.

We trailered the bikes at Camp TenX so they would not charge us three times to enter the park. We kept them trailered when we headed to Vegas.

Vegas was less than impressive. The next morning we kept the bikes trailered and ran down to the Hoover Dam. Pretty impressive feat of engineering.
Pulled the bikes to LA to give our kidneys a break. Saw a handful of bikers riding. They are more manly than us.

CB8EC662-D842-4D04-BFEE-84C506705D1C.jpeg Landed in Pasadena. Rode up to the Angels Creat Hwy. No pics as it was after dark. Then stopped at a California icon to eat before heading back to our room nestled between the highway and a train track. My son says it still beats camping in Tate’s Hell in July.

    Thanks for sharing.

My son and I did that same trip in March. Stayed in Flagstaff for 7 days.
First night was between the train tracks and the hiway! rest of the time in a cabin...

Enjoy your trip and ride safe!

While enjoying this fine sugary treat a moto-cop came up and they passed him donuts out the back door and he passed them cash. We kept our mouths shut.

So after our sightseeing my wife had some work to do so she went back to the room. My son and I wanted to head up to the mountains agin but avoid interstate traffic.
Looked on the map and found a road called Big Tujunga Canyon Rd which took us to the Angeles Forrest Hwy which took us to the Angeles Crest Hwy. At one point we saw a curvy road sign and under it said “Next 42 Miles”. I can say as a Floridian, I am impressed. Up and down and curves. Not as busy as the Dragon. As a matter of fact not many cars on it at all.

We stopped at an overlook to snap a pic and this is what we drove through.

Headed back to town as the sun was setting which made canyon riding less enjoyable.
Went to the Griffith Obervatory. We followed a few other riders in the park. Motorcycles can ride up the bike path and people moved over for us. Then all car traffic was stopped as we were motioned to the front of the parking area by the parking attendants. We didn’t even have to pay to park. These people love us out here. That would never happen in Tampa.

We saw Venus and I slept through most of the planetarium show (what can I say, it was dark, I was laid back and the narrator spoke with a calm voice.

As we rolled out of the observatory my son said something I have rarely ever heard him say before: “man, I’m tired.”
