I did a search and I didn't come up with anything and I think I am missing something. When I make a route in Furkot I understand it doesn't follow the road exactly because it is cutting down on shaping points. When I export it into my Garmin Zumo 396 I still get those straight lines even after it recalculates.

I can load the route into Basecamp and it will still keep that straight line through a curvy section of road and I can't seem to change it. I have tried converting it to a track and then back to a route but no change.

I want it to follow the road because if I just take the GPX file from Furkot to my GPS, all of the time, distance and turning directions don't work or give me garbage (100 mile trip shows up as being 7500 miles) I can still follow the line and I can interpolate when there is an S in the road and there is just a line right though the middle where to go.

I was really hoping to not have to design a route in Furkot to have to rebuild it in Basecamp to get it work correctly. I thought the recalculation in Basecamp would have fixed it but no such luck. Why can't the GPS or Basecamp fill in the gaps?

have you tried expiring TRACKS from furkot instead of routes ?

I dont know anything about Furkot.
However, if you are getting straight line sections between points it sounds like you have things set on direct routing vs Driving or Motorcycle which gives you road routing.

I did try exporting tracks after reading your suggestion and it didn't help. I did have motorcycle set and not direct routing.

I found that I needed to take a section that was off the road and drag it on the road and it would recalculate that section (section between way points) back on the road. Hitting the recalculate didn't change anything I have to drag them on the road.

Thank you for giving me good suggestions.

I would contact the Furkot developers. They probably have a better handle on this, and they want you to be happy. I suspect the problem is Furkot is using Google maps while basecamp & your Zumo is using Garmin's maps.

recalculation it's probably not what you want. it normally creates more problems. might be better to just "follow"your premade track instead of asking the device to recalculate it.

I was hoping that recalculate would fill in the missing shaping points to make it follow the road and let the GPS give accurate times, distance, and directions. It doesn't seem to do that and doesn't seem to notice the path is going off of the road even though basecamp is set for motorcycle or car driving.

Try this- in basecamp (I use a mac) you'll see in the lower left hand panel the breakdown of the route; in front of each section you'll see an arrow if the routing is a direct route (even if you've choosen motorcycling as your activity). Double click on the individual section to bring up the section details and change direct routing to motorcycling (top right of the detail panel on the mac).

All of the segments were set to motorcycle. It is how Furkot exports the route but I just found it interesting that Basecamp wouldn't change it until I added or moved a shaping point or waypoint. Even when trying to force a recalculate it wouldn't go over the route. Changing it from a track to a route and back didn't make a difference. Just an undocumented feature or designed behavior I guess.

Thank you for all the help, I appreciate the suggestions.
