That's what I used too. :nod

It's a huge improvement. The rocker pad on this one compared to the 478 is really bad, so this little fix is just the ticket.

The OSM maps have great detail. If there any way to mute or de-emphasize the private roads? They're colored red, and a thick line at that, really clutters up the screen. :ear

The routing locks up the unit sometimes, while calculating a new route. Happens whether I choose time or distance, and not always. If it crashes calculating shortest, if I pick fastest after it gives a route calculation error, that will work. Or vice/versa.

Ideas? The osm site didn't yield any answers. Frankly, I gotta be missing something on that site, because it's really hard to find answers to anything there. Is there a forum maybe?

IMG_5991-812x608.JPG I really want to like this unit but it is making it hard, i do love the screen over my 278 but that is where it about ends after 23.000km of using my 276cx firmware 3.60
Some minor and serious issues, i will return it and they will probably fix or more likely even replace it.
    Among others:
-random screen freeze, then shut down, when turning back on it has to load every single map installed, this takes several minutes
-when using city navigator europe 2018.2 and calculating a route over 300km, screen freezes, buttons are useless for up to 3minutes
-when adding multiple via points while navigating from a to b, there appear multiple viapoints for the same location with only underscores for a name '_____________' this gets irritating when manually ordering these points
-it has been ok for a while but it started again sometimes screen updates 300m or so after a turn, in a town or city this means i often miss a turn. Yes software is v3.60
-sometimes screen freezes for between 500m and 1000m, also tripmeter doesn't count up anymore, speed stays the same value, everything is frozen, then it wakes up and all values are added, tripmeter is correct, ... weird
    .......
    .....
    The worst was this IMG_6510-812x608.JPG

This does not mean that maps aren't unlocked, it means it can't verify maps, ask map supplier for help,
After a while it would shut down again, startup, same screen, device was useless.
After some testing i figured out that when i remove the micro SD memory card, it would start up and work normally, this was while travelling in sweden, then i asked for directions to a close electronics shop, they transferred some img files from memory card as i instructed, memory card worked fine in a computer, to internal memory of the CX (memory card in computer with adapter, gps connected with cable)
I think there is a loose or bad connection inside, connecting the memory card slot, when a memory card is inserted the device will give this screen and shut down after over 5 minutes, only way to shut it down earlier is to remove battery
I use it in my land rover but mostly on my honda crf250 rally, too much vibrations?
My 278 works flawlessly, just lacks memory size and the screen of the cx

If it gets replaced, i won't keep it, i will go back to 278 and search for a new (brighter? Lcd screen)

A map question. I have the auto. Bundle and would like to get the City Street map if there is more info available like speed limit info and the animated exit display like the zumo has.

Will the City Street replace the Street map USA that came with it or is it a compliment to it?

    Thx!

The map with the auto bundle has speed limits that show on the screen, but not all of the time. It is inconsistent for the same locations and there may be (another) bug that needs fixing. Not a map problem I think, a 276CX problem. I know, I know, the map does not have speed limits for all locations.

It comes on a small memory card, will,it be the go to map or integrate with the lifetime map? Waiting for a reply from gps city.

Just starting to learn this new piece of hardware... running osm maps, 3.70 firmware.

With direct routing I get a pink line as shown in the attached. In my old 376 I could go into map settings and turn off the route line, but this unit doesn't seem to react to that control. Oddly, it doesn't update the pink line as I move either. Just sits there on the map unmoving. Any ideas?

I just like having a distance and pointer to my destination in the data fields. Pink line just gets in the way

    Hmm
Hmm, looks like turning 'active route' under map setup-waypoint to 'off' did the trick.

I've been using the same set-up since February. Took it to Spain for a month (rented BMW F700GS ) and then have blasted around on my DR on a bunch of dirt roads and some rocky pass roads here locally in Colorado and Wyoming. I've put several thousand miles on it.

No problems with the mount (or the GPS, although it's been bad mouthed a bunch, for things that don't matter as far as I can see.) The 276cx is a big honkin' GPS- I got asked if I watch videos on it while I ride!- but for travel it's been excellent. (pricey unit, though).

No doubt it will do fine through Alaska. (The AMPS rugged mount proved itself for 5 years with my Garmin Montana.)

The biggest risk with the mount is operator error, not putting it all the way in. Been there, done that. I attached a lanyard to the battery cover screw and put it across my mirror stalk, just to make sure.

How good is the 276CX now please, after several releases of software but no hardware upgrades that we know of.

I'm talking about using one for route planning as a run leader to give me turn by turn directions, not just cross country off road guidance. I had an early one and returned it as unfit for purpose as it was so slow it displayed turns after I had passed them.

Is it worth trying again please? Can it now be used on full map detail? How much quicker is it than the early days please?

I got one used, and it's been working fine for me.

At first, I was just using openstreetmaps. I've been using gps for work for over 20 years, and it worked okay, though some of the routing on roads was weird in its choices.

Installed CityNav, and made it install on to the device, not the micro sd card. It's been working as I would expect a Garmin to route me. The turn pop-ups have been working fine as well.

It has locked up on me once, just paging around the map. Don't know why, can't replicate the fault.

I'm using in Canada mostly right now, and not in urban areas as I live rural. Only had it a month or so.

I don't know that I'd recommend it just yet, I've not really made it earn its keep. And I have a 395 on the bars as backup.
