MapInstall had an issue seeing SD cards in some units, at least on Macs running 10.13. Perhaps the new version fixes that issue.

I have a PC with Win 10 and have to remove the card and use a USB thingy to update the maps. Also the last time I updated the North America maps I then had to reinstall the Topo 100 for it to work. But what was odd the entire Topo 100 Installed without breaking it into East and West.

That is odd. Based on my experience there are too many tiles in Topo 100 east and west to fit on the Montana. The max is 4000.
I have had MapInstall refuse to install these but not tell my why. And on occasion I managed to get them both installed, but they were wrong.
There were large areas where there was no map. (This was before I knew about the 4k limit.)

I suggest you scroll around the country and verify that all the maps actually got loaded.

I ended up creating two different Topo 100k installs, one with West and one with East. I rename the one I don't want to something other than .img.

I also found I can do file management on the Montana uSD card using an OTG card reader and a cell phone.

I installed all my maps on the SD card. Non are on the GPS memory. Now I see the mapinstall divided it into three files. I did not do that this time. Before I named them and installed a group one at a time. but the last install automatically made them no number, 2 and 3. And I learned they go West to East so 3 is the eastern.

I always and only store my maps on the SD card too. I believe the 4000 tile limit applies to the SD card.
I am curious to know if all your maps are actually visible on the unit.

If so maybe Garmin has done something in MapInstall or the Montana firmware to raise the limit.
I suspect the 4000 tile limit is a software thing where whatever system they use does not allow run time array sizing.

I am probably a few revs behind on the firmware due to laziness and due to being really skeptical about upgrades like the new Basecamp version.

It does look like the new Basecamp for Mac has eliminated the Google Earth option. Hard for me to tell since I’ve rarely used that, but I'm not seeing it in the menus.

I find it’s better to import tracks into a google My Maps for an overview and sharing. There are more map view choices and the search engine can’t be beat.

    Here's an example https://drive.google.com/open?id=1jr74ha4H1QWbt_hq-aQINAjSxX4&usp=sharing

The loss of the google earth option might be due to google, not garmin. Maybe. At least indirectly.

Google no longer allows apps access to maps without and API key. Google will track usage by key and bill the key owner accordingly. I removed google maps from an app for that reason. No way am I going to give google my credit card (a requirement) so I can get billed according to how much my users access maps in a FREE app.

The change will occur June 11. Access to maps without a key will get a watermarked low resolution version. Not sure if earth access will have similar restrictions.

I used JAVAWA to check the Topo 100 maps. It is odd all the coverage by name is Western US. But on the GPS I scroll around and see they are all there. In JAVAWA the tile tool shows the tiles but there is no map to show coverage. I don’t remember if Mapinstall shows what is installed but will have to check. Also I’d rename the files on the GPS but I just have the shortcut set to enable them all when they are needed.

    So they are there.

I used MapInstall and saw the TOPO maps are North to South and not West to East. Also I used the customize and did not install Alaska and Hawaii. Don't expect to need those any time soon :lol3

I just checked my newly updated BC on PC. [Windows 10]

View in Google Earth has been pulled there also.

But you can still do this. All you do is export the track from BC as a .klm file saved to your documents or deaktop.
Then import it into Google earth from the location you saved it to.

I just tried it and it works fine.

If you're running the small data field (or the large data field) dashboard and want to do something where the data fields are, why not just use the little arrow to 'close the drawer' so to speak, and hide the data fields momentarily.

In this screen shot, I have data fields on the right, hidden.

Any luck getting the dashboard back with gloves on while riding?

I can't do it. It is hard stopped with no gloves.

Just picked a 610 to augment my 600. Sat them on the kitchen table to get all the settings matching. It was interesting that the 600 had no or limited satellite access, which is not unexpected inside on the table, and the 610 had plenty of satellites the whole time. Damn Russians......

I often have the data fields hidden. I don't see what that has to do with the buttons on the left (in landscape) or bottom (in portrait).

Okay, so why don’t you just drag the map over so the part you want to do something to isn’t under the buttons?

People complained about non-button space between the buttons. I haven't had any such trouble. I tested a bit to see if I could cause trouble with it. No. My Montana works fine for me and I can use the buttons just fine without accidentally setting a pin between them. Someone asked if I was using landscape or portrait and I tested again and still don't have any problem. Then I switched to the nuvi dashboard and could see the problem that other people were having.

I do use the nuvi dashboard occasionally, but usually use small data fields. I don't have any difficulty with it and I'm not looking for help.

My Montana fell of the bike (my fault) an the display broke.
I found a lot of links to FAQ site and repair manuals at advrider, but all links are dead. Have they been delete or is it just temporaly ?

I changed the screen on my Montana and it’s pretty straightforward. I think Baldly may still be rebuilding search links following the move to the new hosting site.
