There's an icon for the Tracker app on my Nav V so I gave it a try, without success. A phone call to Garmin's support dept. was interesting in that they couldn't get Tracker to work either - so they "opened a case" and advised me not to expect immediate results. (My setup: iPhone 5s, Nav V, Smartlink subscribed).

I've been happy with the tracking feature on my SPOT device and am thinking the Tracker app could serve a similar purpose in cell areas at least. Has anyone already succeeded in using this specific app?

I don't have a Nav V but I do have a Nuvi 2597 in my car and it has a Tracker app which works reliably for me. Even my eTrex Touch 35 has a similar feature as well. I sold my Spot last year and haven't missed it at all.

it's a lot easier to use an application that doesn't attempt to tie with flaky bluetooth devices... ie just use the phone OR spot

Mine worked successfully for ages but just recently it has had an issue that when you go to read the map you have recieved by email, the page is blank.
Not sure what is going on.

Same experience here Pch123. I went to the my.garmin.com site and "filed a complaint".

Are you saying it's blank while you're out using the gps? I know the page doesn't keep a trail showing after the gps is turned off, but I think that's how it's supposed to work.

Would be better if it did show the track for longer, in case you get lost and the gps battery dies.

Is the gps connected to your phone properly? Which model of gps? Nav V? My eTrex Touch 35 and Nuvi 2597 both tracked well last time I checked.

it's pretty easy to use "live tracking" (applications that send your location info in real "live" time over cellular networks to other friends applications or a browser based tracking service) without having to deal with all the Bluetooth pairing mess involved with the extra Garmin hardware.

here's an example of a cross platform application that https://www.followmee.com/m/app.aspx
should simplify the process for you, by just using the iphones GPS antenna, and constantly update as long as you have cellular service to push the updates of your location.

there really is no reason to have the Garmin involved inn the tracking process, since all it will do it complicate it and increase battery use on both devices.

That is all true. But it might be handy, on occasion, to use the Nav GPS to do it, rather than stopping and retrieving a mobile phone out of a jacket pocket and taking off gloves etc to send out the “follow me”, wouldn’t it? And, useful or not, it is a “feature” provided on the Nav/Garmin product that appears not to be working as of this posting.

oops, that's my fault! I've been using /seeing phones on the bars for so long I forget that folks hide them in pockets.

if I had to stop, remove gloves, pull out the phone to turn on and re-pair the Bluetooth connections between a few devices, verify it was working on a webpage, or reboot any of them to get it working, I probably wouldn't use live tracking again.

normally I'll just turn the live tracking feature on from the mapping app I'm already using, since it's right there on the bars. I bet if the Garmin application worked well, more folks would try it.

The point is it did work well until recently. The question is how to get it to do that again. The device / phone interphase works perfectly. It is the display on the browser of where you are that has gone blank.

I see that too, now that I tried the app today. I will call Garmin tomorrow too. When it works, it’s great.

The Garmin support forums would also be useful in resolving this.

Great thanks for the effort. I believe there is a section just for the BMW Nav support. Please post up what you find.
    Cheers

could be just a problem with their webserver then. in the mean time there are lots of reliable live tracking applications for both iOS and android platforms to supplement the Garmin one that has problems.

I'll let you know what I hear. The forums don't really have a specific "Tracking" thread, or a Zumo thread that I can find. But I'm working on it.
