IMG_6032.JPG IMG_4818.JPG IMG_5381.JPG After months of planning, I am leaving tomorrow for Seoul South Korea. My bike (KLR650) is crated and in Miami ready to fly out joining me in the afternoon after I arrive. Plan is to ride Korea for a week, the ferry to Vladivostok stok, across Siberia, down into Mongolia, through the Stans (I would like to ride the Pamir Highway if time allows and my skills improve sufficiently) and then Europe. Three months set aside for this adventure. Past week and a half has been a little hectic because after a year and a half on the market, our house finally went under contract. I have had to move all my stuff, and will have no home to return to.

Pictures are older, I ditched the metal top box for a soft bag which crates better.

WOW! I love the look, but what a load. You may need tractor gearing. Have a great time and keep it safe!

Nothing runs like a Deere! But in Korea, you may need Kioti orange.

Edit: I did not read your last sentence.

Motorcycle has to be at airline by 11pm tomorrow. Got a frantic email midafternoon from the shipping agent that US Customs will not clear it for export, something about a VIN not correct for year. They are not clear on the problem nor a solution. And I am getting ready to start something wrapping up work that will have me inaccessible for several hours. After a few phone calls it seems that (I hope to God) it is all straightened out.

Just a bit more anxiety to increase the adventure of it all

Did you do anything to strengthen the subframe?

Subframe Bolt upgrade is recommended and done. Other failures on the KLR subframe are not common. I can get it welded/reinforced along the way if it breaks

8FC8B3C3-9D53-4EA2-AB97-496CEDBA8860.jpeg Well the adventure started early. I’m in Incheon hanging out waiting for the guesthouse to open. Bike is still in Miami. Apparently some customs agent decided that one crate was 4 items so would not clear it to leave. Needs new airbill, no biggy but also a new POA form for the agent. Ideally a signed notarized original. Relatively impossible. Hopefully it will make the Friday flight and I will clear it Monday and be on my way. Plan to explore Seoul on hoof while waiting

Hiked up hill to the base of Seoul Tower. Too cheap to pay $10 to go up the tower. Walked around town. Went to a museum and a couple of old palaces. Hung out in shade by the little stream for a bit, napped at a park. Between heat and jet lag, my energy levels are down.

Got back to the guest house at about 6 o’clock last night. I was tired from Long day combined with both heat and jet leg. Play down to take a little nap, planning an hour of sleep would help and then I go out and get dinner. It was after midnight when I woke up. Stayed up for an hour or so, then back to sleep. Up at 6 AM this morning feeling refreshed and on jetlagged. FaceTime with my wife. All is well at home. She is a saint to put up with me and allow me freedom to do crazy stuff.

AND I got an email that the bike had finally cleared customs. Still a few hurdles before I am back in the saddle, but it’s a great relief.

Another hot day touring Seoul. I really like this city. Clean, everyone is considerate and orderly. Lots of stuff to see and do. Good public transport. Not that I am looking, but just about every girl is quite pretty.

Saw an amazing model of the city at 1:1500 scale. Every building. 082B5B26-BF9D-4A7E-82D3-A16642ADDBAF.jpeg 082B5B26-BF9D-4A7E-82D3-A16642ADDBAF.jpeg 4CB7583F-9D3C-40EF-8845-04909B659824.jpeg 04AB4DFB-0475-47CD-8E19-D15D7BEC7E6B.jpeg D8BC1836-DE98-41D8-B08D-8749FEED3145.jpeg
