It sure is thick and pretty. Very sexy curves. I'll try it out tomorrow on the way to meeting Epilady and cRAsH at Alice's. Lunch thread here.

Road-tested the new screen for about 75 miles today, about half of which was freeway.

First impression: this sucker is HOT. It completely blocks the arm vents of my BMW Commuter jacket. This is a good thing in the winter, but not so good when it's 90F outside.

2nd impression: the buffetting is no better, and seems worse than my less-pretty Parabellum screen.

3rd impression: I could not adjust the screen to a point where it didn't buffet, still let some air in to my helmet vents, and didn't cause a bunch of back-pressure forcing me foreward toward the instruments.

I think I'm going to put the BMW tall screen on for the remainder of the summer, then go back to the Parabellum when the weather turns cold again.

So, it's for sale. See my add in the flea market.

I ordered a #2 4.5 in light grey a few days ago; I'll let you know how it works on the RT.

    Fish....

Should have asked for some advice first.. :bash ...I ride with the #2...no Buffet except for Warren.

If you didn't screw it up, pack it up nicely and send it back and I will send you #2 and if it looks new I will send you a windshield in our #2 style too.

Cool...thanks airtire. I'll try to resist the temptation to wipe it down with sandpaper :):

I'll get it out UPS tomorrow, if I can break away. Any note you want me to put in it?

Any chance of getting that #2 without the flip? I think they cause funky eddies.

Thank you, fish, for a serious analysis of both strengths and weaknesses of one of the new windshields.

Early on, I ordered one of the Cee Bailey headlight protectors. I think it is fine for the price I paid at that time. Unfortunately, the finish of the product dissuaded me from purchasing a windshield. The irregularities in the edges and the scar coming off one edge and across a portion of the underside (the side facing the headlight unit) were tolerable for a $25 headlight protector, but I didn't want to buy a windshield with a finish like that.

I posted this description on the RT board some time back. Airtire responded saying that it was not his intent to distribute pieces with flaws such as I described and I have no reason to doubt that. For me, it simply meant I would wait to read more about the windshields before making that kind of investment. Unfortunately, I think the "feeling of special-ness" pervading that board over having been selected for an early discount resulted in a sort of zealousness preventing meaningful analysis and reporting on the product. That is why I am grateful to read a report that addresses both the good and the bad.

At the 49er Rally, I saw Rocky Mayer's Cee Bailey windshield on his new black RT. The finish was gorgeous, far superior to the finish on my headlight protector. I started to regret not buying one when the prices were lower. What would really be nice is if someone could, a la Consumer Reports, test the various styles and heights of windshields and provide a thorough and honest report.

Perhaps Cee Bailey's would like to see this done, too. I volunteer fish for the project! :thumb

I have absolutely no qualms with the workmanship of the screen. It's symmetrical and nicely finished. In fact, it's even better than the screen Rocky has :D

Then again, my seat doesn't look like a dead wombat either :rofl Ah just kidding, rock...it's a beautiful seat...even tho that color of suede doesn't exist in nature :lol2

One more thing about this screen...I thought it was really cool how they had crossed out the name "Fernando" and wrote "Fish" in bigger letters above it :lol2 :pimp

A guy named Fernando called us and said we had an order in house for FISH and asked us to make it so that it created a lot of buffeting, so we obliged and then marked it for you.

The flip in the #2 works great..if we remove the flip then it is just a tall stock design..like #1. It is up to you, but everyone is happy with the #2's.

As for the early on stuff that Jim is talking about, it was and is still a learning curve...but at this point we have shipped about 300 windshields since March and only about half...oh, I mean a few have had issues but these are handmade, just like a custom seat and anytime there is a human involved it can (and will) get messed up.

We are not rocket scientists, we just took the 3 varieties that were available and tried to improve them. We would have never started this deal if I didn't pay $215 for a flimsy 1/8 inch industrial piece of plastic for my RT...so blame the other guys for us being here.

At the price we are asking, it is a good deal....

P.S.... we are coming out with a windshield for the GS's and we are going to make back all of the lost money from the RT mistakes back on these GS suckers, so don't tell anyone...

    :thwak :):

    okay...#2 it is.

It sure looks CNC to me...

Don't worry, your secret is safe with us...since we know none of those GScumbags ever come over to this forum :huh

Looking foward to a good GS screen. Turbulence and buffeting is the number one complaint of GS riders, which is a big part of the reason there are so many shield options out there, and more developed every day. Unfortunately, most/all have some flaw (probably dictated by the Association of GS Windscreen Manufacturers, no doubt) that keep us buying new shields in hopes of getting the perfect one.

Check out the GS windscreen suggestions thread

    Cheers!

    Thanks mang! You rock.
