My guy is on Purina Veterinary Diets Joint Management diet in place of any supplements - easier, has good levels and sources of Omegas (Main supplement that has scientific evidence, also has glucosamine etc), easier and had clinical studies (a lot of supplements don’t).

As you said - lean is key, regular moderate exercise (leashed walks) to maintain muscle tone without pushing him too hard. Continue the Deramaxx but you can add Gabapentin if it’s not enough, it’s a pain medication from the human side - good for chronic pain, very safe and well tolerated - I worn clients when starting it they may seem a bit out of it/sleepy for the first week - but if you keep going the acclimatize and keep the pain benefits.

This is Petey, Penny's twin brother from the same litter. He went for a sidecar ride this past weekend. He's not quite standing up and surfing with his nose in the wind like Penny does, but I think he likes it.

They pretty much do everything together.

It was about 104 f with the humidex (40c), so last minute I found a cooling vest and cooling bandana for him. The Go Fresh Pet Ice Vest (Ice Vest Cooling Vest for dogs (XS) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H51ZOKC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_kJRoBbCV9XTGG )worked great, about 90mins in I noticed he was panting more, so I pulled over and poured water all over it again, then one more stop for the same.

Total trip was about 4 hours with traffic, about 300kms mainly highway going 110km/h. Impressed by the little Vstar with all the weight. People’s reactions to the rig are priceless!

He’s weirdly fine with the doggles for about 20 mins, then makes it his mission to get them off so I gave up.

You could try Rex Specs. Ruby was always OK with her Doggles but like your dog Ivy would only keep hers on for about 5-10 minutes, and as soon as I slowed down or stopped, she'd paw them off. Now she is fine with her Rex Specs, leaves them on until I take them off, even to stop for gas etc.

I’d read that the Rex Specs were superior but couldn’t get them in time (Amazon Canada had doggles with next day delivery) - may have to try them out!

PS lovely crew you’ve got there!

Totally worth it. They fit GREAT and are obviously very comfortable for my two dogs.

"Dry eye" or wind damage to the eye applies to our monkeys too! Excellent sealing to help prevent that...

Great too that they make different sizes. I've got the regular and small. Easy and simple lens swaps too!

Okay Buck is a pretty amazing dog and tolerated doggles fairly well. BUT..... I was constantly adjusting them as they kept slipping down his nose and covering half his snout and eyes. I think it annoyed him as much as me. We finally switched to Rex Specs and couldn't be happier. Thanks to a post on here maybe @DRONE I think we are both much happier.

More here at the bottom of my thread.

Molly during an early doggle training session. Put them on while she was fetching her ball, here she is waiting for me to throw it. She loves her ball so much I also used it to lure her into the tub before I even had it attached to the bike. Worked as good as food. Of course food was necessary too.

Thanks. She has always been the center of attention. Not that I would ever relegate her to chick magnet. She is plenty satisfied to be the trusty sidekick, though now a days I think that's me. She is definitely the star of the show.

Here´s a pic of two happy campers:

    IMG_5698.jpg

This is a friend of mine, a former biker who got severely injured in a bike crash over ten years ago, and haven´t been able to ride himself ever since. His dog was found half dead from a roadside in Bulgaria, been hit by a car. She was rescued by a charity worker, batched up by a vet, and later on she immigrated to Finland to bring joy to my friend.

These two survivors are by far the most enthusiastic hack monkeys ever in my hack!

Rex Specs came today, in clear for Molly's night rides. No sidecar pic today, the chariot is in the shop for raked trees. Molly is 55lbs. and the medium fit her perfectly fully extended.
