Fantastic bike, will fit nicely next to my 1290SDR
The article mentions the GT makes more power than the SDR.
By the looks of it, it will be available late 2016/early 2017.
Pffft! So does my 30 year old VF1000F.
But as xtremewlr says-- it lacks a nice feature or two that progress has allowed.
Good thing-- because we all know how dangerously under-powered the 1290 SD is.
Not loving the big pointy front
I will trade the RC8R and SMT990 for this one. wonder if I should get it the first model year....
It's a KTM, what could possibly go wrong?
But seriously, while it (reportedly) has a somewhat different engine, different & electronic suspension, IMU-based capabilities, etc., everything mechanical/electrical that's new on it is a development of something KTM has already done on other models. So it should be relatively trouble free.
Of course, ymmv
If the seating position isn't too cramped, I will want it!
This this new KTM 1290 GT sounds badass and will be my next bike as it checks all the boxes. Check it out, a nice exclusive for cyclenews Mag>>
Rode the new 2015 Ducati MTS and 2016 BMW XR for a week and both both were good but had shortcomings that are well documented and need to be sorted. Then i rented a 1290SA for 2 weeks and fell in love with that motor, ergos, brakes...everything but the looks. Decided to wait for this new GT and from what I'm reading it seems to check all the boxes for a badass motorcycle. My deposit went down today, lets hope KTM gets it right out of the gate.
Oh they listened to their customers? Well then I'll expect quality on this go around.
The concept looks good and I be the dynamics will be incredible. I just don't want to take the damn thing to the shop every other week and then leave it for a month!
Also, I would like a redline on my tach. Thanks.
A sport touring SD. Nice!
Oops! Didn't see the other thread.
I've went just about 200 miles on a 1290 SDR tank....I wouldn't recommend trusting that range.
6 gallons would be pushing 300
MCN UK have a test ride. Sounds like it'll be a serious player. 23lt tank, 210kgs and 185bhp.
Some crazy figures if true.
Read the Article. Wow.
Love that a QS is mentioned as a standard item. Although the article calls it a "power shifter" which implies it can also be shifted with buttons but I suspect that is not actually the case. No mention as to whether it does down-shifts too. They will really miss a trick/be down vs the competitors if it doesn't and also if they they do not put it on the 2016 SA. Fingers Xed they get it right.
Also love that it will get a colour dash and likewise, I hope that appears on the SA.
Motorcycle news also seem to have had a spin on it and were impressed.
This and the 2016 SA are at the top of my list so far for 2016 as I was disappointed in the new Africa Twin's "goodies" - but will await a review before passing final judgment.
That said, I hope they can get some LED lights in there, although I have now sourced some very nice pop in replacements that are all-in-one so it will not be a deal breaker if they don't.
Can't wait for all the juicy details on all the bikes from Milan, Paris etc.
It's not exactly sexy but looks to be functional. Something I'm willing to overlook for the complete package. This bike is filling all the check boxes for what I want.
Its KTM - they do angles and points well
Okay, they have my attention! Never been on active suspension, maybe this will be the one!
