Still going strong - spent a decent chunk of our winter down in New Zealand, 9300 km. Will need a change of filters and fluids, new speedo cable and a fork seal then should be good to go, as ever. Simple as a rock and just as reliable.

As part of the cosmetic refresh of my 1100gs, I painted and clear coated my entire exhaust, with header paint. Making progress on it!

Also made some progress on other stuff today...replaced the plug wires, replaced the plugs, new air filter, and new BarkBuster handguards have been installed. The new O2 sensor will go in when I mount the exhaust, and at some point in there I'll put on the fuel controller.

Going to be a quiet couple of weeks in terms of progress...going to be busy for a bit, but later on in March I should be able to resume work on it.

It'll be interesting to see how that holds up after a year or so. Try to remember to let us know and, especially if it works well, what brand of header paint you used, and what you did to prep the parts first. If it burns up, changes color, chips and flakes, or otherwise goes shitty -- don't bother! :D

Congrats on the new bike. Might want to take note, though, that a GS1100 is a Suzuki. What you got there is a BMW R1100GS. :1drink

Nice bike may well be worth changing the brake lines for stainless at the bikes age .I had a lucky escape on my 99 1100 when the front hoses broke down internally seizing the front brake on ,others have failed

My bike came from New York. When I was researching the 1100's I pm'd a local owner on his thoughts about the bike. Gave me great info and offered to let me come visit(only a few miles away). Then I caught his ride report of him buying a new bike and got to wondering if he was going to sell his GS. Sure enough within a few days it was for sale and I grabbed it. Great shape except for the wheels.
They were not in the best shape. I kept telling myself I would deal with them. I finally have a nice collection of various polishes and cleaners to get them brightened up. It had to be the New York winter roads. Havent gotten to them yet but plan on building a work bench mount to hold the wheel/tire combo so I can get them cleaned up.

I'm on it! Plan is to change out front and rear brake lines with braided stainless steel. The stock rubber looks good but I hadn't considered any internal breakdown. Thank you for pointing that out...

Youre welcome the only give away before they fail is difficulty in bleeding or small parts of rubber in the old fluid when you replace it or the pads sticking on the rotors

Hey Slacker, nice 1100. There are a few of us around the area that have them.. In fact last night I was coming home and saw a guy on a black one. I turned around to try and find out who it was, but he was nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, mine is laid up right now with a bad HES.
