The Spot folks were not at the show so I'll be renewing my current device.

    Called them today, no joy.
No sales or promo's are available.
Their prices are higher online and they said to go to a retailer for better pricing.
Not very personable on the phone.

Wow! I had the exact opposite happen. I sent an email stating I was not interested in renewing for the full price ($160ish) but would renew for the same price I have paid the last 2 years ($106). I got a prompt email AND a phone call saying they would credit my acct $60. I was in Daytona for bike week and figured I would take care of it when I returned. I got another follow up call. I was very impressed. Thought for sure they would tell me to pound salt.

Anybody seen any Spot promo codes in the wild? Getting about time to set up my Gen3 again. I haven't paid attention so maybe they have deals at certain times of the year?

Got an email from Spot telling me that the basic no tracking service level is no more. The new basic level now includes tracking for $149 annually.

That is only for a new device. And to qualify for it you must pay for a one year subscription.

I have the basic service now and noticed that I could enable tracking for no charge on the Additional services page. I might be looking at other options for my next renewal.

I never received an email from Spot which doesn't surprise me considering a big part of their strategy is to change your subscription, not tell you and not enable you to cancel easily.

EDIT: It ended up costing $50 to add the tracking to my existing basic plan.

I had a similar experience, called them one week before my subscription expired. Been paying $100 for three years and the last two years have been getting tracking added for free. They have adjusted my billing already in advance. I would not have continued with their service at $150 but for $100 they'll keep me from switching over to DeLorme.

Noticed on my Visa account that Spot had renewed one of our units the other day without any warning, aside from the new rates announced on June 1.

Came to $265 Cad after the US funds conversion! Granted this included replacement insurance and the rescue option but geez.

Called them immediately and told them I was outraged, and the guy tried to offer a refund to bring us back to what we paid last year but I told him to cancel it completely and refund the whole amount.

    Enough is enough.

I make sure to change my cc info (I change a couple numbers) after I renew so they can't auto-renew at full price the following year

Just send e-mail to customerservice@findmespot.com with Subject: "Notice of Cancellation". Include your ESN in e-mail and they will cancel auto renewal for you, and possibly give you a better deal.

They offered me a deal when I was canceling about 3 months ago, and I though that I am not going to be using SPOT anymore...

Now I am thinking about getting a tracker online again and there is not promo for spot?! Maybe time to switch to inReach. :)

Just as a note to anyone who might be interested. REI currently has the SPOT Devices at 50% off. I didnt know about the InReach until reading about it here so Ill take a look at them and their service as well. REI currently has InReach Messengers at 25% off. Both if these deals are only until Nov 21st.

Or just switch to the InReach like I did. Spot has been terrible to me and then they jacked their prices up to almost the same level as the InReach with half the capability
