Pretty sure they're already forward but need to verify. I was feeling around for air flow and you might have hit it on the head. The air is amazingly clean so up position might be the trick. 2 days and 300 miles on the odo. It's loosening up nicely. A LOT more pep now and I'm much more comfortable.
Spotted an xmax today en route to work, had the top box and rack, looks like a nice scoot on the road @2wheelfish was if you?
520 miles... Bars are in the forward position, move windshield to the higher position... not real sure it's better but it's been a bit blustery so I'll do an A/B comparison when the wind calms down. Mileage is running in the mid to low 80 mpg. Best has been 84 and worst 82. Stopped by the dealer to pick up oil and a filter for the 600 mile change... they don't stock the filter! I ordered two and since they come out of Los Angles it'll be here tomorrow. Other than our 9th day of 100+ degree heat, I have no complaints. I'm usually on the road at first light and get between 90 and 160 miles in before it gets too hot. Anyone running an aftermarket exhaust? Any REAL improvement other than lighter (both the device and wallet)?
You bet it was. Sorry I didn't respond to this sooner, for some reason I'm having a huge problem posting with my phone. Anyway good to be seen! Here are some of Villageidiot's "action" shots... Cheers.
Went to Dealer this morning & put down deposit on Xmax the OTD price is going to be $7000 seems high but it will save me from having to drive 300-800 miles to find a better deal. Between my deposit & down payment I’m only financing a couple thousand dollars & will pay off scooter before the end of 2018
I bought and installed the Yamaha Sport Screen, perfect for hot days when you want max airflow. I'm around 5'11" and with the screen I also get zero buffeting, only clean air. So that's nice.
606 miles. I performed the 600 mile service, essentially it's just oil, filter and final drive. So, I couldn't find GL-3 85W so I called Yamaha Customer Service to ask if GL-5 was acceptable. What a run around! First I was told the manual was wrong and I should be running 10w-40. I pressed the issue of GL-3 Vs GL-5, waited on hold for 5 minutes and the gal came back and said she was going to kick my concern up to Corporate. Fine... on hold some more. They kept confusing final drive with the crankcase oil. I finally said "Look, I'm running synthetic 10-50 in the crankcase, the manual says I can run either 85W GL-3 or 10W-30 SE rating oil. I told them I CAN'T FIND GL-3 85W! Can I run GL-5?" On hold for a while... I'm running 10W-30 Sheesh! First Nit: No parking brake. Riding in the foothills the turnouts aren't always flat! Aftermarket has it covered but Really?
You likely opened a can of worms on that one, GL5 will handle very demanding applications but some versions of it but it may attack soft metals such as bronze etc if present. GL3 is for slightly less demanding applications but safer to use if you're unsure. I think GL3 has been phased out, what you probably should be getting is GL4 and that can be found everywhere. On a 28 hp scooter though... any reasonably thick engine oil would likely get the job done. lol. I'm pretty sure the reason for transmission oil is mostly heat transfer and cooling rather than protecting the gears from the "massive torque" the X-MAX 300 is putting out. Or maybe it is.
What a sweet powerful motor this thing has. I mostly ride dualsports and adventure bikes and have put 80,000 miles on my Yamaha WR250R which most people wished it had more horsepower. Riding 2 up the XMax will out run the WR hands down with one rider on it--------and with a much better top speed--------------I don't like going fast (bores me to tears)--------but it will do it. They should put this motor in the WR250R. BigDog
Just a short update, installed the givi rack with a 43L top box. I have a total of 45L (underseat) + 43L (box) = 88L woohoo.
Yeah but don't do like I do and carry a lot of crap you will probably never use. Tooth brush and a credit card is all you really need so I try to convince myself. Today I saw a few really, really overloaded motorcycles. Too many fat bastards also.
Just brought one of these home yesterday. Can anyone recommend a cover? Yamaha has one you can order, is it worth it?
How long/ difficultly was it to put on the Givi rack.I was reading that you had to drill into rear plastic with a 10 mm bit And have to remove the rear plastic ....
Hey guys, new inmate here.. Thanks all, this has been such an awesome, informative thread, and I’ve been following your reports and what you’ve been doing to your scoots with much interest! I took delivery of my XMax 300 just a couple of months ago. After a trip to Italy last summer, the desire to have and ride a capable scooter was born! It’s my first bike actually. I made the comparisons, pre-purchase, amongst the available models in this class, and I think (and no doubt you’d all agree) that the XMax was indeed a most excellent choice! I’ve been able to put just a few miles on it so far, pretty much just getting a feel for it.. I do need to practice and get comfortable with slow-speed maneuvers on it. I’ve had it up to 50mph as well, but have kept it lower, being mindful of the break-in recommendations. As an over-the-road trucker, I’m only home for 4 days at a time each month, so I think it could well take me a year until I’ve completed just the first phase of breaking-in! I did want to share this with you.. I found the service manual for the 2018 XMax 300 online as a downloadable pdf for the bargain price of just $8.50! I’m happy to have found it at all, let alone for such an inexpensive price! It is complete, and the reproduction quality is excellent. Here’s the link, hoping as a new member, it will post.. https://yamaha.manuals.cc/2018/05/yamaha-new-2018-xmax-scooter-service.html Have fun! Staying tuned!
So I ordered a Dowco Guardian cover from Amazon (link below) for around $75. I guessed and ordered a size large. I have the big top case so its a little snug and doesn't go all the way down, but it does sort of clip around the fenders snug so it doesn't come off. I thought about returning it to check out another size, but decided to keep it and see how it goes. I like that its grey since my main goal was to keep sun off and not rain, and the size is ok for my purpose. If rain protection is your goal, I'd probably look elsewhere. Below are a couple of pics to get a sense of it. You can see my bike uncovered pictured above in this thread. Hope this helps.
