I just confirmed with the winery that they are holding October 27th for us. Riders wanting to get in on the GPS routes need to make sure I have their current email address. Instructions are at: http://www.OzarksDualSport.com

Since this is a non-event, participation is free, and routes are of your choosing. Those that desire can join us at the winery for dinner Saturday night. The cost for dinner will be known when I get a rough head count and pricing from the winery.

Just like previous years, I expect a pretty good crowd for lunch at the Oark General Store on Saturday.

I have a pretty good GPS file of fun street rides available. They all are my favorites, which can be connected for a loop as long as one would like.

I have the GPS files for many of my previous formal rides, including a newly found complete 2 day loop for the old Mena, Arkansas dual sport ride.

Since this is a non-event, there are no maps or roll charts. Some riders will just enjoy the paved back country roads. Many will enjoy the 2005 dual sport ride. Others will probably take their time in the OHV areas which have great trails. This is truly a go ride where ever you want, and come have dinner with the other riders Saturday night, kind of non-event.

Maybe next year I'll return to a formal ride, but then, maybe not. We will see how riders feel about it this year.

Probably try to do the "Day 2" southern route on Friday again, if I can get down there on Thursday.
Will be good to see you again ThumperDRZ:D

Hey Mike :wave - we're planning on coming down for Friday and Saturday to ride too. One day just isn't enough. I have the previous routes from RL but not sure if I need the "newly found" route RL is just mentioned but it will be good to have just in case.

This time it's "Have GPS-will travel" :deal

    See you there......

Newly found route is the old ones from Mena he did back in '99-'00. Good stuff, not as good as the stuff around Clarksville IMHO. Plus it's actually pretty far from Clarksville unless you're in "adventure touring mode" :D
I just rode near Mena back in April anyway.
I like to do the "Day 2" loop on Friday and then ride with everyone else on Sat. You're welcome to come along. Not sure who all is coming down from here this year.

Man do I miss riding the Ozarks, in the fall especially. Too busy this fall but food for thought for next year.

    You all have fun

    Hey guys,

Is this non-event too tuff for a noob on a 250cc SuperSherpa?

I am mainly a pavement rider on my 1500cc Victory Sport Cruiser and my Sherpa is feeling neglected. I've ridden gravel roads but am definately not a MX rider. I've been on the NF trails near Big M Marina (south-east of Cassville, MO) once and didn't kill myself. :clap

    Opinions from you veterans?

I wouldn't consider myself a veteran....but I'll make sure we do everything within our powers to make sure you don't die.....:lol3 .....though there's no guarantees....:deal

Honestly, you can make this ride as easy or as hard as you like...RL has many routes setup for different terrain preference and skill level.

I'd like to get with anyone who knows some D Sport routes that lean towards the gnarly. My KTM is plated, but kinda sucks on pavement. I know the trails at Byrds Campground, and a little of the Huckleberry multi use trails near New Blaine. I know Brock Creek very well. If anyone is going to do this trip and mostly stay offroad, let me know, I'd like to join in, or even lead some of the group around Byrds on the single track/ATV trails.

I'm trying to rally a few of my buddies, I had fun last year but didn't get to ride nearly enough because I didn't get there early enough. I'll be emailing for GPS routes and leaving earlier this year. :D

Most of this ride is no problem, but the Mill Creek trails might be challenging for a noob. Lots of rocks. Ask ThumperDRZ about last year:evil Just from reading his posts I think he's gained a lot of experience in the past year though.
The "Day 2" route is mostly in the Huckleberry Mountain multi-use trails. Excellent ride but maybe a little tougher than Mill Creek even, more rocks and some water crossings.
I've done this ride every year except '99 and '05. Pretty much learned to ride offroad during them:D

I've got three GPX files ready to go.

    1) A huge file of all the best twisty blacktop roads.

    2) The 2005 loops, adventure & knobby, tracks & routes.

    3) The combined two days from the Mena dual sport ride, including some from the Wolf Pen OHV area.

Email me to get them returned in a reply. Remember, GPX files are kinda big.

Pretty much the whole "Day 2" route in is Huckleberry. This is a shorter route RL came up with for folks to ride a half day Sunday so they could get going home. I'm gonna ride it Friday though.
The roughest part of the "Day 1" route is in Mill Creek.
I'm the one who asked you about Brock Creek in the AR riders thread. I may have some noobs with me this year so I'm gonna stick to RL's routes. They will be tough enough:D

If you are a noob on a KLR, I would look for some guys to ride the "adventure loop" with. The KLR is a lot of bike to take into the trail sections. I've seen guys do it, but the bikes were stripped down, geared down, and had full knobbies.

If you're worried about being "the n00b everybody made fun of," fear not -- I will probably be filling that role. What I lack in experience, I make up for in entertainment! A cow-orker and I will be trekking down on new-to-us 650s, so expect plenty of slow-motion hilarity. I can't wait!

Are people going to begin showing up on Thurs night and riding Fri morning? Trying to decide when to come down. We showed up late Fri night last year seems like we missed out on some good rides on Friday. I was thinking about bringing my dirt bike for Fri and the big bike for Sat. Anyone else thinking about bringing more than one bike?
