    More tyre porn.
    Now done 10,600kms.
Booked in for a new one tomorrow.

The front has done about 18,000kms.

Looks pretty squared-off. What's with the big chicken strips? No bends up there?

It’s only been on the bike since this May in Perth winter and as every says, they are shit in the wet.
I am very wary of cornering on them in the wet.
In early June I rode across the Nullarbor to the Farina Rally, then back to Perth.
    Lots of straight lines.

Then, two weeks later I left Perth in heavy rain on this trip.
Rained all the way to nearly Port Agutta and then we went up the track to Birdsville.
So it hasn’t had much time to get into corners.

I could be in worse places.

Got to remember to vote in the Freo by election today.
I couldn’t do it before I left as nominations hadn’t closed.
Last I heard, the Libs weren’t going to run a candidate.

A very nice young ‘Merican waitress.
    Oh to be 21 again ! :D
    (but without the numbnuts stupidity)

Out that way again tonight for a bite with a group.
A very well done piece of waterfront development.
Cottesloe council in Perth could learn a thing or two from this place.

Spent the morning replacing my squared off K60 and making sure I got my voting done.

Then I went and had a little tour of one of the bases here, making sure our tax dollars are being spent wisely.

If I’d known they had these things when I was a lad, I’d have joined up years ago.
Sneaking around the Torres Strait playing the nautical wanderer on one of them sure beats paddling across.

And again, my theory on WA (and Australia in general) being one big country town, came into play again.
Chatting to the female contractor at the guardhouse, she grew up in Derby, WA and spent a lot of time on Cockatoo Island before it closed in the late 80’s, she also knew two friends of mine that worked there.

Hanging out today at a multi sport race with my Townsville mate.
Cold mornings with heavy dew, up to about 24-25 degrees by midday . . gotta be better than Perth right now.

Going to take the bikes across to Maggie Island tomorrow.

    Argh, retirement. Bliss. :lol3

    Magnetic Island on the bikes.
    A top spot.

With an obligatory pic from my chair in the coffee shop . . just for Wardy.

Finally back in the road after a great 4 days hanging with my Townsville mate.
A big hard to leave his couch and TV actually.
    :lol3

Sitting in Ayr now, waiting for Tony on the CB500XA to join me after his ride down from Cairns this morning.
Then we’ll head south to link up with my brother who has been visiting in Bundaberg and Brisbane.

I have no real route plans moving forward. I want to eventually get to Robe, SA and Kangaroo Is, before heading home.

Our 4th member is further south, heading home earlier and has suggested the Oxley from Port Macquarie and the Pacific Hwy towards Tamworth ?

I’ll have to dig out my other maps, I still only have SA and QLD ones readily accessible at the moment.

Hi @Eaglebeak , you could try heading towards Biggenden, then south towards Goomeri (there are a couple of nice easy options off the Broowena Woolooga Rd e.g. Running Creek Road, watch out for stock, this will bring you out at Kilkivan; then head for Kinbombi to Kilcoy Murgon Rd).

Then Kilcoy / Murgon Road to Kilcoy. As an option, try the Monsildale Rd (turn off just north of Jimna; there are some concrete water crossings; one in particular has a reputation as being slimy).

Then towards Esk, skirting the Wivenhoe Dam.

Skirt Ipswich and do either of these options:

    1. Head for Ripley Rd – general direction to Beaudesert. There are some decent twisties heading up the Mount Lindsay Highway towards Woodenbong – watch for trucks though.

Then head to Woodenbong, Urbenville and pick up Hootens Rd just south of Bonalbo (home to some Olympic kayak or canoe type people – you may know of them?).

    2. Or as an alternative from Ipswich, head for Boonah, then Carneys Creek, White Swamp then Paddys Flat.

Once at the Bruxner Highway, head west towards Tenterfiled on the Bruxner Highway (the equal of the Oxley IMHO).

If you have time and don’t mind missing the twisties, consider using Rocky River Rd (a few KM’s before Drake Village – signed as Long gully Rd). This is a fantastic stretch.

Hope this gives you some ideas. Reading this back now, it may be a bit confusing, let me know if you need a Google map (I’ll see if I can put one together).

One last thing, both the Oxley and Bruxner run east west, so time of day can be an issue riding into the sun.

We woke to ash everywhere in Ayr. They still burn the cane.
Best Motel I have ever stayed in “Country Ayr Motel”, Queen St. Japanese lady in reception.
Complimentary smorgasbord breakfast and dinner was also a smorgasbord at $29/head European and Japanese quisene.

This Citreon was next to us. Injected 2.8 4, 1974 (?). Apparently has a $16,000 paint job and original high back front seats.
Possibly in Mackey tonight catching up with a mate of Tony’s.
On target to meet my brother Friday in Toowoomba. I have an old work boss I thought of catching up with in Brisbane but I am reluctant to go into the city.
